Summer Editor's Letter

by

I am somewhat of what people refer to as a control freak. I like to think of it more as being a Type A personality. Whatever you call it, I like my routine. As you know (or, if expecting your first, are about to find out), babies throw a big wrench into your daily life. Every single aspect of it. So while I adore babies, the baby stage with my own two girls was a bit trying for a schedule-happy girl like me. As a matter of fact, at the one-week appointment for my older, when the pediatrician asked if I had any questions, the only question I had was, “How do I get this baby on a routine?” After the doctor patiently explained to me that is was unreasonable to expect a 1-week-old baby to be able to follow a routine, I realized that I was going to have to work on giving up my need for control.

With one baby causing such a disruption in my daily life (who would have thought?), can you imagine what I would have been like with twins? Or triplets? It would not have been a pretty sight. That’s why I’ve so enjoyed following a local family, the Ishums, who had quadruplets just a little over a year ago. Oh my! I so admire mom Rebecca’s outlook and positivity. She is a super mom in my eyes! Her four little ones recently celebrated their first birthday. Rebecca tells all about her year with the quads in a sweet essay.
