KC Going Places Editor's Letter 2021

Welcome to my hometown!

This year, we’re looking forward to the all-new Riptide Raceway at Oceans of Fun! I’ve been making summer memories at Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun since I was a child, and I love enjoying the parks—which just keep getting better—with my family. In June, Union Station is welcoming the world-class exhibit, Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away. This groundbreaking exhibition features 700 original objects and 400 photographs telling the most comprehensive history of Auschwitz and its role in the Holocaust ever presented in North America.

One of our favorite year-round attractions is the Kansas City Zoo. This year, the zoo welcomed two playful koalas on exhibit through November. We also love the Elephant Expedition, complete with water features and spacious areas for the elephants to enjoy, the Polar Bear Passage where our two resident bears are at home swimming and playing, the Helzberg Penguin Plaza, and our world-class African exhibits. Ride the train, carousel and Sky Safari to make the most of your visit.

We also love our city’s landmarks as well. From the National World War I Museum and Memorial to Union Station, Crown Center and the Country Club Plaza, our city has a story to tell. As you flip the pages of KC Going Places, you’ll discover new and beloved attractions, exhibits and events to enjoy on your visit.

Visitors often ask, “If you only have a few days, what would you see?” That is impossible to answer with a one size-fits-all solution, but we’ve collected a great three-day itinerary for families, and a variety of itineraries in each district for everyone from the foodie to the daredevil, the shopper to the historian.

These are just a few of our favorite ways to explore our city. You’ll find many more as you flip through the pages of KC Going Places.
