KC Going Places Magazine Fall-Winter 2020-2021 Editor's Letter

Welcome to my hometown! Fall and winter are my favorite times of year in the city. We love exploring local pumpkin patches and cider mills in the fall and celebrating beloved holiday traditions in the winter.

Seasonal traditions stand out this time of year. Louisburg Cider Mill is famous in our region for everything fall—and rightfully so. With delicious cider, apple cider donuts, a beautiful pumpkin patch and corn maze, and its centerpiece barn hosting many fall events, this is a must-see autumn attraction. We also love taking kids to spend a day playing at Carolyn’s Country Cousins Pumpkin Patch in the Northland. It offers giant pumpkin pillows, a large petting zoo, train rides and pig races. Johnson Farms Pumpkin Patch, in the south part of town, has delightful play areas, pumpkins, apple picking, a pumpkin-chomping dino, and tractor-pulled hayrides. We also love visiting Weston Orchard in the fall for apple and pumpkin picking at a scenic farm with jumping pillows, outdoor attractions and wagon rides. You’ll find our guide to the city’s best patches and fall attractions on KCParent.com.

One of our favorite year-round attractions is the Kansas City Zoo. This year, they opened the all-new Elephant Expedition, complete with water features and spacious areas for the elephants to enjoy. The new exhibit is accessible to all visitors and one of our favorite new attractions.

We also love our city’s trademark landmarks. From the National World War I Museum and Memorial to Union Station, Crown Center and the Country Club Plaza, our city has a story to tell. As you flip the pages of KC Going Places, you’ll discover new and beloved attractions, exhibits and events to enjoy on your visit.

Visitors often ask, “If you only have a few days, what would you see?” That is impossible to answer with a one-size-fits-all solution, but we’ve collected a great three-day itinerary for families, and a variety of itineraries in each district for everyone from the foodie to the daredevil, the shopper to the historian.

These are just a few of our favorite ways to explore our city. You’ll find many more as you flip through the pages of KC Going Places. Welcome to Kansas City! We’re happy you’re here and we hope you love it just as much as we do!
