A Lesson From Our American Girl Trip

Last week my mom and I took the girls to the American Girl Place in Chicago. My mom has been planning this trip since she first found out I was having a girl, almost nine years ago. I figured it was time to go as both girls are at the perfect age to enjoy the store and let's face it, my mom isn't getting any younger and I wanted to be sure she would enjoy it.

We had a great time and they really know how to do it up at the store. From getting your doll's hair styled to more shoe selections than in most stores for people to ear piercing, they have it all. The dinner we shared with our dolls at the Cafe was a blast and the food was yummy. All in all, a really nice trip.

I did learn one thing on the trip. My girls hadn't taken a vacation to some place that wasn't "kid-friendly" and it showed. When we arrived at the hotel and both girls started playing on the cart they use to bring luggage to the room, I knew that I needed to have a serious talk with both girls about what was expected of them. At both Disney World and Branson, no one bats an eye when your kids run through the lobby or if they spin through the hotel door several times. In Chicago, where people have places to go, they aren't as happy to wait as we decide who gets to push the button for the elevator. It turned into a really great learning experience for my girls about behavior expected at different places. Now only if they'll remember it all the next time we travel!
