Fabric scrap necklaces

I’m a fabric hoarder. But, recently I decided to clean up the closet and sort the fabric bins and use up any smaller scraps. I found this really fun project on Pinterest. Even my girls (6 & 8) were able to do and love making and wearing these darling necklaces.

It is a simple braid, so all you need are 3 long strips of fabric. They need to be about an inch wide or less. The really narrow strips will make skinny necklaces. The 1 inch strips will make chunkier necklaces. I think both styles are cute.

I like simply tearing the strip as the torn edges make for a nice texture when creating. Then, safety pin the three strips at the top and pin it to the couch cushion, or wherever you want to work. Braid the pieces and pin at the bottom. Then, with a sewing machine, straight stitch the two ends to each other and trim away any extra fabric.

Layer the necklaces in different lengths for a really cute look! Perfect for summer and fun to make, too.
