RC's restaurant features two stories: the downstairs chicken restaurant (topic of this review) and the upstairs sports bar & grill (RC's Back Door Bar & Grill). I have never visited the Bar & Grill, but we LOVE RC's Chicken... so that is the focus of this story!

My girls famously (at least in their circle of friends) adore Belgian Waffles... and by adore, I mean they have requested a Belgian Waffle Maker as an upcoming birthday gift! Living near Martin City, I have frequently driven past RC's Chicken and noticed the "Chicken & Waffles are Back" banner waving in the wind many months (perhaps a year or two) ago. So, a few weeks after that first spotting, I decided to give it a try and with four little girls in tow, we enjoyed a fun lunch of just that... chicken and waffles. We enjoyed it SO MUCH we have been back many times and my oldest daughter makes frequent requests to visit RC's Chicken again and again!

I'll admit, prior to seeing RC's Chicken banner the notion of Chicken & Waffles was new to me. Yes, I know all about fried chicken (and LOVE it) and yes, I know all about Belgian Waffles (the mark of the best hotels according to my children and their friends), but Chicken & Waffles? After a little reading, I learned that the dish is a popular soul food breakfast, but served all day at RC's. So, feeling adventurous I placed my inaugural order and I was served just that - two pieces of fried chicken and one giant Belgian Waffle.

Bottom Line: Delicious! RC's Chicken claims, on their website, to serve the Best Fried Chicken in Kansas City and... I agree! (My apologies to Stroud's - a close competitor and Gomer's - which is very popular with locals, but never won my heart even after years of living within walking distance.). The crust was perfectly seasoned and delicious, the chicken was juicy and tender, and RC's Chicken won my heart this side of homemade. (And, yes I have dined at both Chicken Mary's and Chicken Annie's in Pittsburg, KS - a rivalry that still stumps me.). I love fried chicken year-round, but summertime definitely calls for a tasty fried chicken dinner!

About the waffles? Let's just say my children have not been satisfied with my "ordinary homemade in the skinny waffle maker waffles" ever since! They are fluffy, delicious, and served warm with butter melting on top.

In addition to Chicken & Waffles, they serve breakfast, a variety of lunch dishes (including traditional fried chicken dinners with mashed potatoes and veggies), and more. You may read their full menu here http://rcschicken.com/menu. Rumor around the neighborhood is that all of their food is delicious - I wouldn't know, the Chicken & Waffles have had me (and my daughters) hooked from the start!

Food: Delicious! A local favorite - and worthy of the claim.

Service: Friendly, fast, and great with kids.

Atmosphere: Clean and spacious (especially when compared to other local chicken restaurants).

RC's is a family favorite at my house! Me: They serve the best fried chicken in town. My daughters: They serve the best Belgian waffles in town.
