No Sew Pin Board

Are you a fabric hoarder? I absolutely love fabric. I know my collection pales in comparison to many lifelong sewing lovers, but it seems to be growing, slowly, over the years. Especially the remnants. There is something I just cannot resist about a big basket of fabric remnants. Especially the huge, delicious baskets overflowing at Nell Hill’s in Briarcliff. And because I know how much a full yard of these lovely fabrics actually cost, the bargain hunter in me loves it even more.

So, I decided it was time for a project using some scraps, and I pulled this together pretty quickly and easily! And the best part is, you do not even have to sew!

The No Sew Fabric Covered Pin Board

You’ll need:

First, plan out your design. I used a G monogram, and perched the little birdie on top. I printed both the G and the bird from my computer, so the size I wanted, and trimmed around the items to use as a pattern.

Then, cut your fabric and interfacing together, making a rough square around the pattern item. Then, iron your fabric square to your square of iron-on material. I have found it is then easiest to trace your pattern item onto the backing. (If you’re doing a letter, be sure to trace it backward, so when you flip it over and iron it on it’ll read the right direction).

Then, iron on your pieces one at a time, layering as necessary. I added a beak, eye, and wing onto my bird as the final details. As a last step (which I have yet to finish here) you wrap the fabric around the pin board and staple in the back. I plan to have my design in the lower right corner of my board so it won’t get covered up until the board is completely full.
