Review: Pahappahooey Island: What About Me?

Pahappahooey Island: What About Me? (67 minutes, Recommended for children ages 2-5)

This kid-pleasing new video is sure to be a winner with young children. The catchy songs and colorful characters are fun for kids and not terribly annoying for adults. Much nonsense sprinkled throughout the shows will keep kids laughing but doesn't distract from the message. The What About Me video contains two episodes: What About Me? and Hide It In Your Heart.

What About Me? follows Ali, Captain Hobbs, Hacksaw and Millard as they head out on an adventure with a treasure map. Meanwhile, the evil Ichabone Slink attempts to make the inhabitants of the island think only of themselves. Miss Ruby (voiced by Joyce Meyers) does her best to help them overcome their selfish ways and learn to work together. Will they figure it out in time to find the treasure and prevent Slink from finding it first? It's a lesson for children of all ages and sure to get the preschool crowd thinking beyond themselves (with a little help from an adult). (Please note that the show ends before the treasure is actually found. This might be harder for the younger children to understand, but does provide a great opportunity for discussion.)

Hide It In Your Heart begins with some special items mysteriously disappearing from the creatures who live on the island. Ali, Guiseppe, Fernando and the rest of the gang set out to find out what is happening to their things. Is there a thief on the island? Along the way, they learn that there is indeed a better place to keep things—a place where no one can steal them! This episode also opens the door for talking to younger children about what is really important.

Both shows promote biblical values but do not share actual Bible verses.
