Share a Book, Set a Record, Make a Memory

by

Visit your Mid-Continent Public Library on Thursday, Oct. 8 to hear THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR and join with thousands of other children world-wide in setting the record for the most children hearing the same book on the same day.

In conjunction with Jumpstart, a national, research based, early education program for at-risk preschool children, Mid-Continent Public Library will be sharing Eric Carle’s classic picture book at all story times, throughout the day, at scheduled outreach locations, through special “Caterpillar-to-Go” kits for teachers and with two special events by Mr. Stinkyfeet, Jim Cosgrove. Child audience numbers will be collected and sent in to count towards a new record.

Mr. Stinkyfeet will be presenting the story at the Boardwalk Branch [8656 N Ambassador Dr. KCMO] at 11:00 am as part of Thursday story time and giving a program at the Lee’s Summit Branch [150 NW Oldham Pkwy, Lee’s Summit MO] at 7:00 p.m.

Can’t make it to the library? The text is available on the library’s website at www.mcpl.lib.mo.us so you can share this great story and join the count too. Just send in the number of children [under 18] hearing the story to MCPL 816-521-7214 or asteele@mcpl.lib.mo.us by noon, Oct. 10. Learn more about Read for the Record at www.readfortherecord.org.
