Spring Classes For Kids

When it comes to choosing a class for your children to attend, there are hundreds to choose from. Gymnastics, Pottery, Tae-Kwon-Do, Music, Soccer, and so on. Finding a class is usually not the issue. It's finding one that is the right fit for your child at the right price for your budget.

If you're looking for a ballet class for ages 3+, I've found one that is a "right fit" for us and fits into our budget as well.

Our daughter in 3 1/2 and has never really taken a "formal" class before. She did a Kindermusik session as a gift given to her when she was 2, but other than that, classes are a new thing for us. She is your typical "girly-girl" through and through, and ballet and ballerinas naturally fell as an interest. After two recommendations from similar-minded friends, we enrolled her in a spring ballet class held at Legacy Christian Church.

The session began today and meets weekly for 45 minutes through April 13th. The cost for the entire class is just $55! There is a maximum of 10 students that can be enrolled in the class, and there are two teachers assisting. In my daughter's 3 and 4 year old class, there are just six ballerinas. Parents stay out in the hallway while the girls have their class (although we all took turns peering through the window on the door). The girls are learning ballerina dance moves and official french terms, but it still feels relaxed and fun. Some classes elsewhere can feel overly competitive and intimidating, but this felt just the opposite.

When considering a class for young children, ask yourself a few questions before enrolling. Is this what my child is really interested in, or is this the "popular thing" to do right now? Does this fit into our budget? What is the time commitment? Does this class offer what we want (competitive vs more relaxed and a fun introductory)? It's easy to be taken by the wind when it comes to choosing classes for kids. Instead of going with what the neighborhood kids are all doing, or just throwing your name on a sign-up at preschool, really consider what interests your child and what works for your family.
