Sparking a lifelong love of learning through the power of play is the mission of Wonderscope Children’s Museum of Kansas City—and do they ever live up to their mission! We recently visited after not having been for awhile and I rediscovered what a treasure Wonderscope is. In fact, shortly after our visit, we returned with friends for another day of fun.

If you haven’t been for a while, Wonderscope has added some great new exhibits over the past couple of years. Kids can splash around and experiment with water in the H2Oh! exhibit, try their hand at design and engineering with Build Your Own Raceways and harvest fruits and vegetables and shop for foods in the Farm to Market exhibit. A hit with both of my girls is the RMC (Repurpose, iMagine, Create) center, formerly the Recycled Materials Center from the Children’s Museum of Kansas City. As they both love crafts, they always are able to find some treasure to create with for just a very small price.

In addition to many of the great new exhibits, many of our family’s favorites are still there. The undersea Lego adventure is a blast, and we always save our visit to the art room for last as my girls usually paint their faces all sorts of interesting designs. My personal favorite is the Amazing Airways in which you stick scarves into tubes. You can control the air flow to change how quickly the scarf travels and from where it exits.

Wonderscope has a great picnic area for you to enjoy snacks or a meal. In addition to the museum, Wonderscope offers many different programs and events. Be sure to check out the website for a schedule of all the fun things they offer.
