May 4: Star Wars Day

Visit the Kansas City Zoo, where you can see the Asian small-clawed otter triplets named Han, Luke and Leia. They were born October 2018. The playful trio are beloved by fans in all galaxies … including Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker himself!

May 11: National Train Day

Spend a day exploring the Overland Park Arboretum’s 300 acres and more than 800 plant species, including 45 acres of botanical gardens. While there, visit the whimsical train garden where garden trains operate in a miniature village. Admission is less than $5/person, and free on Tuesdays.

May 12: Mother’s Day

West on Memorial Drive, near the National WWI Museum and Memorial, you can see the Pioneer Mother statue. The memorial honors early pioneers traveling westward. The inscription on the statue is from the book of Ruth, “Whither thou goest I will go, Where Thou lodgest I will Lodge, Thy people shall be my people, And thy God my God.”

View the Federal Reserve Bank’s cash vault, where robots move thousands of dollars’ worth of money.
