Enchanting Excursions for Fairy Tale Fun in Kansas City

- Fairy Tale Village exhibit at Crown Center, Feb. 7-May 3. Children's tales come to life as you walk into a world of make believe to interact with characters from favorite stories and rhymes. Visit the Snow Queen in her Ice Palace. Experience the giant adventures of Jack and the Beanstalk. The interactive exhibit includes a reading area where parents can share their favorite stories with their kids.
- Rapunzel presented by Paul Mesner Puppets, Jan. 28-Feb. 28 at Mesner Studio. Paul Mesner Puppets tells the traditional fairy tale with their own humor-filled approach. An evil witch forces her father to promise his first-born child to her many years before. So Rapunzel, now a young woman, is taken away and locked into the witch's tower. Her future looks bleak until a young prince comes along.
- Cinderella, presented by CYT, Feb. 12-15. Rodgers & Hammerstein's beloved musical comes to life on stage. Cinderella accomplishes the "Impossible" with the help of her fairy godmother and leaves her "Own Little Corner" for a magical evening at the prince's ball.
- Make a crown. Visit Kaleidoscope, one of the best FREE family trips in KC. Children can create wands, crowns, tiaras and royal treasures. One highlight of the trip is making your own jigsaw puzzle and watching it run through the press where the center piece is shaped like a royal crown.
- Discover fairy tales in art. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is a FREE family excursion. You will find scenes reminiscent of fairy tales and showcasing royalty throughout the art collection, especially in the European section of the galleries, where a highlight for children is the knight in shining armor.
- Ride in Cinderella’s carriage on the Plaza (47th & Pennsylvania, Kansas City, MO, 816.531.1999 or 816.531.2673). What princess hasn’t dreamed of riding in Cinderella’s carriage? In the evening, the carriages are lit, creating an extra touch of magic.
- Explore a castle at a local park. Spend the day at Harris Park (110 SW Blue Pkwy., Lee's Summit, MO), or Southmoreland Park (47th & Oak, Kansas City, MO). Each playground features a castle theme!
