We've found another KC gem to add to your "to visit" list and lucky for you it's in the part of town I affectionately refer to as "Tourist Central." When we have out of town guests or are looking for something fun to do on a day off I always check to see what's going on at Union Station, Science City and Crown Center- our "Tourist Central." Add to this beautiful fountain clad intersection the Liberty Memorial and WWI Museum and you'd think there couldn't possibly be anything else to do within walking distance. Ah, but there is! Introducing the Money Museum! An economics lesson and tourist attraction all in one!

The Money Museum at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is a unique experience offering a free, up-close look of the nation's financial system in action. As the nation's central bank, the Federal Reserve is a vital part of what makes the economy work. At the Money Museum, you can learn about the Fed through interactive exhibits that explore banking, how people pay for things and how monetary policy decisions impact your family's bottom line.

You'll also be able to take a peek into one of the region's largest cash vaults, give the nation's currency your own redesign and view the famous Truman Coin Collection, which includes coins from each U.S. presidential administration.

Your child will never forget the time he stood in front of a wall containing $40 million dollars in cash or watched $10 million in worn out dollar bills as they are fed into a shredding machine. Leave your cameras at home. Due to obvious security reasons, photography is prohibited.

The Money Museum is available for walk-in visitors and self-guided tours from 8:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday, excluding bank holidays. No reservations are necessary. Guided tours are available for 5th grade-level groups and above, including students, educators, bankers, community organizations and the general public. Guided tours are free of charge, but reservations are required and can be made by calling 816.881.2683.
