Inside Scoop: Stacia Pieroni

Stacia Pieroni is the Australasia area supervisor at the Kansas City Zoo. She oversees a staff of eight zookeepers and more than 150 animals in the Australia and Asia sections of the zoo.  “I am a ‘working’ supervisor so I, along with all of my staff, make sure our area animals are receiving the best care possible on a daily basis,“ she says. “This entails feeding, cleaning, training and observing our animals seven days a week, 365 days a year—the animals do not take holidays.”

Stacia: Royals game.  Friday night fireworks!

Stacia: Shopping and dining on the Plaza.

GP: If you are raising KC kids, what is your favorite place to visit in KC with them and why? 

Stacia: The Kansas City Zoo!  You are bound to see something different every time you visit.  It’s both educational and enjoyable for kids of all ages. 

GP: Best place to go for a stroll in KC?

Stacia: Trolley Trail/Brookside.

GP: Best place to dine on a date in KC?

Stacia: Café Trio.

GP: Best place to dine with kids in KC?

Stacia: Fritz’s Railroad Restaurant.

Stacia: The 3 B’s: barbecue, baseball and Boulevard (brewery)!

GP: Favorite spring tradition in KC and why? 

Stacia: 1) Enjoying a locally handcrafted microbrew on McCoy’s patio.  It’s a great way to socialize, enjoy the weather and relax. 2) Going to the farmers market at City Market.

GP: Favorite summer tradition in KC and why?

Stacia: ROYALS BASEBALL! Affordable and fun.  Great fans! Best tailgating experience.

GP: Must-see KC attraction for out-of-town guests and why?

Stacia: Tailgating at a Royals or Chiefs game. The effort that our fans put into their tailgate parties is impressive.  We don’t do just burgers and hotdogs! You can actually feel the fans’ dedication to our teams. This is also an opportunity that not many other professional sports stadiums have to offer.

GP: Best-kept secret in KC? 

Stacia: The view from the top of the Liberty Memorial and happy hour at La Bodega (half-price tapas!).

GP: Favorite museum in KC?

Stacia: Nelson-Atkins.

GP: Best place to hear live music in KC? 

Stacia: Starlight Theatre’s Concert Series.
