They’re only this little once — so make the most of it! From apple picking and coffee shop cuddles to petting zoos and twinkling lights, Kansas City offers endless ways to celebrate your baby’s first fall. Sure, they might be too small to remember it — but you will. You’re starting new traditions, and the photo ops will be oh-so-fun to recreate year after year as they grow.
This sweet seasonal bucket list is full of local favorites perfect for making memories, snapping pictures, and soaking up every bit of autumn magic together.
B – Brew a cozy moment at some of Kansas City’s best coffee shops. Who can resist a pumpkin spice latte this time of year? Try visiting Pilgrim Coffee Co., Sway Coffee Roasters, Mildred’s or Cause Coffee for your fall caffeine fix. Bring a few toys for the baby to join you in the high chair or grab a cup of joe to go!

A – Apple picking is at its peak in the fall here in Kansas and Missouri, and it’s such a sweet way to spend a day as a family. Head out of the city and into the orchard to let your little one experience the simple joys of fall — whether that’s reaching for low-hanging apples or riding on Dad’s shoulders between the rows of trees.

KC Parent Pro Tip: Our family’s favorite spot is Gieringer’s Family Farm in Edgerton, Kan. We grab a bag, and before we know it, it’s full of apples in every color and flavor. Last year, we especially loved the Autumn Crisp and Pixie Crunch — so delicious right off the tree!
B – Bounce and bond at a local play gym. Is your toddler climbing on every piece of furniture in the house? Channel that energy at an indoor play gym, where soft, age-appropriate equipment is made just for your little spider monkey. Club Run & Jump in Olathe offers all-day open play in a supervised space — perfect for curious climbers and busy little explorers.
Other great local options include The Little Gym in Parkville, where you can sign up for weekly classes, and Inspired Play Cafe in Overland Park and Merriam, which offers convenient drop-in playtimes. It’s a fun and safe way to burn energy — no couch cushions required.
Y – Yes to sweet (and simple) Trunk-or-Treat fun. Local churches and community centers host these low-key Halloween events — perfect for little ones to try trick-or-treating without the long walks or spooky vibes. Bonus: You’ll see so many cute costumes in one spot!

S – See pumpkins of every shape and size. Visit Carolyn’s Pumpkin Patch, Johnson Farms, KC Pumpkin Patch or Louisburg Cider Mill for the ultimate fall photo ops and baby-friendly fun. Each spot has its own personality and mix of activities, but one thing they all have in common? Pumpkins everywhere.
Our family had the best time at Carolyn’s Pumpkin Patch last year. There’s something for every age, but my toddler especially loved the bubble station, carousel, jumping pads and petting zoo. It was the perfect mix of festive and fun.

KC Parent Pro Tip: Take your perfect pick from the patch home and have a family carving night. Let your baby feel the cool, slippery texture of the interior of the pumpkin, or even try a taste!
F – Feel fuzzy fur at a petting zoo. Meet baby goats and more at Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead. Their Pumpkin Hollow event is just the right size for toddlers and preschoolers, and admission includes access to the Kidz Corral, an enclosure full of friendly, curious goats. These goats aren’t shy — they’ll trot right up to you, ready to climb and nibble!
Kids can also meet the farm horses that pull the hayride, milk a pretend cow, jump into the corn kernel pit and race around on trikes along the dirt track. It’s classic fall fun at a pace even your tiniest farm fan will love.

I – Investigate fall nature together by going on a nature walk. My girls love collecting leaves, sticks, acorns and anything else that catches their eye while we’re out on the trail. For stroller-friendly adventures, try the trails at Ernie Miller Nature Center or Lakeside Nature Center. We also love Mill Creek Streamway Trail, Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park and Indian Creek Trail for their peaceful paths and all the crunchy leaves underfoot.
KC Parent Pro Tip: When you get home, tape your treasures onto a page and try to label them — it’s like building your baby’s first nature encyclopedia.
R – Ride in a wagon at a fall festival. Weston Red Barn Farm’s Fall Festival weekends are the perfect chance to enjoy a tractor-drawn hayride. Stay aboard for a scenic tour of the farm, or hop off to pick your own pumpkin in the patch. Don’t miss out on all the other fun activities! Take a ride on the Grain Train to discover the farm’s history, navigate the corn maze, enjoy pony rides and savor caramel apples, barbecue and fresh apple cider.
S – Snack on local fall treats. Grab cider donuts at Louisburg Cider Mill or warm cookies at McLain’s Market in Overland Park. The Lenexa Chili Challenge is another family-favorite food event, with more than 200 teams competing for the grand prize on October 10-11. Grab your spoon and feast on samples of chili, salsa and wings. Toddlers will love the face painters, balloon artists and live music.
T – Touch twinkly lights as the holidays approach. Even little ones can get into the Christmas spirit! Visit the Festival of Lights at Powell Gardens for an evening stroll through beautifully illuminated paths and displays. Kids will want an hour or two to explore, with plenty of chances to pause for a warm drink or snack. Don’t miss the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Festival in Downtown Overland Park, where Mayor Curt Skoog will light the city’s tree in Thompson Park. Stay to snap photos with Santa or the Grinch, and watch the kids enjoy pony and train rides.
F – Fuel your little one’s imagination at DOZER in Leawood. Let your baby or toddler scoop, dig and explore in a giant indoor sandbox filled with construction toys. It’s the perfect spot for sensory play and big truck dreams! Designed with young builders in mind, DOZER offers a safe, creative space for littles to dig, dump and discover — no hard hats required.

A – Attend a fall festival or trunk or treat. Looking for a fun fall outing the whole family will love? Try the Maple Leaf Festival in Baldwin City — it’s one of the area’s biggest fall festivals and totally worth the drive. You’ll find everything from a colorful parade and cozy quilt show to 300 craft booths, yummy fair food and plenty of kid-friendly activities. It’s held every year on the third weekend of October.
L – Lantern festivals in the area are a must-see this fall and winter. The Kansas City Zoo’s GloWild Lantern Festival offers a magical, immersive nighttime experience perfect for babies and toddlers, with massive handcrafted lanterns lighting up the zoo. Another favorite is the highly anticipated Luminary Walk at the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. This festive stroll kicks off the holiday season with illuminated garden paths, enchanting gnome and fairy gardens, live music and photos with Santa. Bring the stroller and enjoy these glowing adventures.

L – Listen to live music or enjoy movies outdoors. Fall is full of outdoor concerts and movie nights perfect for the whole family. Pack a blanket and some snacks for a relaxed, stroller-friendly evening that’s great for babies. Friday Night Sound Bites at the Lenexa Public Market, featuring live performances, kids’ activities and delicious food, continues through the end of October. Plus, Legends Movie Nights on the Lawn offer a free weekly film screening. The turf yard with gentle slopes is an ideal spot for little ones to run around while you enjoy the show.
