For Christmas I asked for a new cell phone, to update my 1990's version flip phone that I've had for several years. My main reason for wanting to upgrade was to be able to text. Now, I didn't want to (and still don't want to) be someone who is on my phone on all times (and don't you hate it when you are out with someone who is constantly texting/checking email/updating FB, etc, etc), so I went with just a phone (not a smart phone) with a keyboard.
So, I've entered the world of texting and here's a few things I've learned:
- I need to learn the lingo-I was flummoxed by "IMHO" but I get "LOL"
- Typing with just your thumbs is hard work!
- It's really handy! If my workout buddy can't make our early morning session, I'm not left wondering whether or not she's showing up, she simply sends me a text.
- I feel more connected with my out of town sisters-all of us are busy with kids and life, but can find a minute or two each day just to check in or say "Hi"
- Since my thoughts often jump from one topic to another, I can quickly text a question to a friend, rather than trying to remember to ask the question next time I talk to or see that friend.
I resisted texting for a long time, but am learning, that with almost all things, in moderation it can be a good thing!
