Christmastime is a perfect time for a delicious meal at an upscale eatery. Get into the spirit of the season at one of these delightful places.

Prima Facie Bistro in Parkville is a stunningly beautiful place that is upscale, but not at all pretentious. From the navy velvet seats and moody lighting to the impeccable service and expert plating, every bit of this place is inviting. And the food? Well, it’s just what you would expect from an establishment like this: outstanding! We have been several times and have never had anything that wasn’t good. Our recommended items include the chicken noodle soup, power bowl, trout almondine and seasonal cobbler. All are phenomenal! If you really want to live it up, go early for happy hour and enjoy their delicious meatball pomodoro and truffle fries. The fries alone will change your life. Well, maybe not your life — but certainly your night.

Although it’s a chain, one of our favorite spots for a nice dinner (or lunch) is Ocean Prime. The fact that it’s on the Plaza just makes it even more special. The place has a sophisticated, modern and unassuming vibe, with just a touch of coziness. They offer many delicious seafood entrees, including the sea scallops and Chilean sea bass, both of which are divine. They also have excellent sushi. And whatever you do, do not pass up the roasted Brussels sprouts or the miso-chili roasted broccoli. They are both amazing side dishes. But the big highlight, in my opinion, is the 10-layer carrot cake — wow. If you are in more of a casual mood, check out their lounge, where they have happy hour from 4:00 to 6:00, Monday through Friday. All of their food items and specialty cocktails are half off during that time.

Tallieur is a lovely and charming Victorian-inspired eatery in Midtown. The atmosphere is laid-back but refined, and the service is excellent. Their menu has a nice selection of entrees and appetizers. Many of the appetizers could be eaten as entrees, like the mussels, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The grilled bread that came with them was amazing too. My husband had the chicken paillard, which he didn’t have any trouble finishing. I had read some great reviews about their butter beans, so we got those too and shared them — delicious! We’d never had anything quite like them and would highly recommend. Although we’ve been there just once, we will certainly add this place to our rotation. It’s upscale, but it’s definitely more relaxed than Ocean Prime or Prima Facie. And they have a beautiful patio out back that we’d like to try on our next visit.
