Battle of Lexington Open House
Battle of Lexington Historic Site 1101 Delaware, Lexington, Missouri
Mark the anniversary of the Battle of Lexington, Sept. 18-20, 1861, by coming to the historic site for an open house. Stop by the visitor center to enjoy a film and museum, which retell the story of the battle. You can also take a self-guided tour of the grounds and battlefield and visit the Anderson House.
Built by Oliver Anderson in 1853, this house was once considered the “best arranged dwelling house west of St. Louis.” The Greek Revival-style home features cast-iron Corinthian columns and walnut woodwork. During the Battle of Lexington, the house was used as a hospital by both sides and withstood an intense three-day battle. Today, the home is restored and furnished in mid-19th century fashion, but it still bears the scars of the shot and shell that once hammered it.
