Summer Reading: Ocean of Possibilities
Johnson County Library will dive into the Oceans of Possibilities this summer with both virtual and in-person programs!
We will kick it off with a series of virtual events on Saturday, June 4, including family storytime, trivia and music. Ben Clanton, author and illustrator of the “Narwhal and Jelly” series, will lead us through guided drawing and character creation. In honor of our sea-going theme, author and poet Allan Wolf will wade into the infamous sinking of the Titanic and bring to life the stories that inspired his novel in verse, “The Watch That Ends the Night”. Then we’ll dip our toes into some poetry of our own.
We will welcome 123 Andres, author Deborah Lee Rose and the Kansas City Zoo Penguin Encounter virtually in June. After the 4th of July we will have in-person presenters at several Library locations including storyteller Priscilla Howe, Mad Science and a one-woman circus variety show with Martika Daniels. We will also bring back the ever popular Read to a Dog with Pets for Life.
Join us for book clubs for kids, tweens and families, and storytimes throughout the summer, both online and in person. And get creative to enter our youth sticker design and poetry contests.
We will wrap up our adventure into the Oceans of Possibilities at our outdoor End-of-Summer Reading Celebration on Friday evening, July 29, at Thompson Park in downtown Overland Park, including “Finding Nemo” on the big screen as the sun goes down.
