Time Travelers - Goin' to Town
Step back in time to the 1920's at Shawnee Town 1929 Museum. Today you'll be in the town doing a lesson in our one room schoolhouse straight from a 1920's reader and looking at how the world has changed on a 100 year old map. You'll take orders and stock shelves in Garrett's Grocery Store. Bring your doll or teddy bear to Bousman's Barber Shop for a haircut or trim. Yes, really! Play vintage board games.
Today's extra activities: 11 am - 1 pm leatherworking with Cornie Neufeld, retired Kansas farmer and the very first man to graduate from KU's School of Nursing. 10:30 am - 12 noon 1920's art project with Michelle Meade, children's book illustrator and graduate of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts teaching program. You'll be making a clothespin doll and creating a room for your doll using a cigar box, wallpaper, pop bottle caps, matchboxes, ribbons, paints (washable, of course), and all the trimmings.
Time Travelers activities change every week through August 9th. There are three main programs which rotate every three weeks: Down on the Farm, In the Garden, and Goin' to Town with extra activities every time. Experience all of them this summer! Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 am - 3 pm. Select Wednesdays 6 - 8 pm.
