Carolyn’s Pumpkin Patch is Kansas City’s Original Pumpkin Patch and a “must-visit” fall destination!
Enjoy dozens of attractions and activities that are fun for all ages! Check out our historic Country Carousel, Little Bud’s Railroad, the Petting Barn, the Sports Barn full of games, Apple Cannons, our brand new Barnyard Mini Golf and so much more! Take a wagon ride out into the you-pick pumpkin field to find your perfect pumpkin. Later, take a break and enjoy a wine slushie in the Depot or share a bag of farm-fresh kettle corn. And of course, don’t forget to pick up some of our famous pumpkin donuts!
Live entertainment during the weekends adds to the fun at Carolyn's! On Saturdays and Sundays, families can enjoy the excitement of Uncle Lester’s Pig Races, live performances by local musicians, and photo ops with our Pumpkin Princess.

Johnson Farms Plants & Pumpkins
Open Sept. 23 - Oct 31:
Johnson Farms is a real farm in the country, but very close to your home. You pay one admission and only pay extra for anything you harvest, snack on, or seasonal items in the retail store. Hurry in for the best selection of our 25,000 farm-grown mums; they sell out quickly. (Retail store requires no admission charge.)
After a wagon ride out to the field, your children will meander through the 40-acre pumpkin patch and will thrill at the sight of their perfect pumpkin or choose from 7 varieties of apples from our 5000-tree apple orchard! Once back from your wagon ride, take pictures near the Giant Sunflower and Zinnia field and pick some fall veggies!
Our playgrounds are geared towards kids age 3-12, and are included in the admission:
- 2 Corn Pits
- Barnyard Arcade with Skeeball, Basketball, and Duck Races
- Two Giant Jumping Pillows, open every day until one-half hour before we close, for kids age 3 -12.
- Giant Tunnel Maze
- Corn Crib Challenge, a twisting barn maze for the older kids
- Climbing Wall
- Real fire engine, army truck, and bulldozer for exploration
- NEW this year is our Goat-el, with mama goats and their babies.
- Next door is the Piglet Barn
In addition, on the weekend Farmer Tom’s Barrel Train is included for small kids 2 and up ( unless mom or dad can fit in the barrel) and runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm.
Weekend pig races begin at 11 am and run every two hours** this is a short trip to the Dinosaur Chomper and Pumpkin Cannon which also run just on weekends, (which is why the weekday admission is discounted).
All beef hot dogs, nachos, Apple Cider Slushies, and, of course, our Pumpkin Spice Donuts are freshly made all day, every day, and can be found in our retail store as well.

Louisburg Cider Mill
September 13 - October 31, 2024
It all starts at our Country Store, where you can watch apples being pressed into cider in our 120-year-old barn, enjoy some of our famous apple cider and apple cider donuts, and sit and enjoy live bluegrass music every weekend. You can also grab some of your other favorites in our Lost Trail Soda trailer! All these things can be enjoyed during Country Store hours of operation, and there is no fee for admission to the Country Store.
A fall trip to the Cider Mill is not complete without a stop at our Family Farm! Venture through our 10-acre corn maze, and search for the perfect pumpkin to carve or for one of our special ones in our 10-acre pumpkin patch. Enjoy a wagon ride around our Family Farm; stop off at Tire Mountain to enjoy some fresh air and slide down Sunflower Hill. Watch the kids run and play in Little Apple Playland as they climb on our rock wall and swing from the monkey bars. Accept the challenge of an intense game of Jenga or Connect Four. It is a fun time to reserve a fire pit and host a birthday party or even a family gathering with a Fall theme, call to reserve your fire pit today. All these amenities are available with paid admission to the Family Farm.

SPECIAL EVENTS
9/15 – 9/17: Scout Weekend: Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies, and Daisies get $2 off admission to the Family Farm when you wear your uniform or show your badge.
10/6 – 10/8: College Weekend: College students receive $2 off admission when they show their student ID at the Family Farm.
10/13 – 10/15: Community Service Gratitude: As our way of saying “Thank You” to all community service workers, all teachers, firefighters, enlisted military, first responders, EMTs, nurses, and doctors will receive $2 off admission to the Family Farm with a valid ID badge.
10/14: Zombie Forest Night 6:30 – 10 p.m.: Dress up for this fun night of spooks and thrills! Bonfires, wagon rides, and more! Bring your flashlight to go through the maze in the dark! Zombie Forest is a fundraiser for our local Paola High School Robotics group.
10/21: 13th Annual Burning of the Scarecrow 7 p.m.: Live music, bonfire, wagon rides, and more! Bring your flashlight to go through the maze in the dark. Zombie Forest night continues.
10/27 – 10/29: Costume Weekend: Wear your Halloween costume and receive $2 off your admission ticket to the Family Farm
10/28: Cider & Spiders, Tricks & Treats 10am-3pm.: Join us for a fun-filled evening of trick-or-treating and a costume contest!

Hoots & Howls and Boo at the Zoo Weekends at the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium
Enjoy family-friendly fun this weekend at the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium! Guests will enjoy fun fall activities throughout the Zoo for the whole family.

Oct 5-6: Hoots & Howls - Friends of the Force: Find the droids you are looking for this weekend only at the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium as the 501st Legion joins us from a galaxy far, far away. From 10 am to 3 pm guests can meet and take photos with the legion & enjoy fun fall activities for the whole family, including a pint-sized hay maze, photo ops, and more. Activities are included in the price of Zoo admission or membership!
Oct 12-13: Hoots and Howls: It’s officially fall at the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium! Celebrate the season with us at Hoots & Howls. From 10 am to 3 pm guests can enjoy pedal tractors, a pint-sized hay maze, and more. Activities are included in the price of Zoo admission or membership!
Oct 19-20: Hoots & Howls - Ghostbusters Charge up your proton packs because the Midland Empire Ghostbusters are taking over the Zoo this weekend! Join us Saturday and Sunday, October 21-22, as these special guests pose for photo ops and keep the Zoo ghost-free from 10 am to 3 pm. See their version of the Ectomobiles and enjoy fun fall activities, including a hay maze, photo ops, and more. Activities are included in the price of Zoo admission or membership!
Oct 26-27: Boo at the Zoo: Celebrate Halloween with us at Boo at the Zoo! Bring the kiddos in their family-friendly costumes and join us for this not-so-scary, safe trick-or-treating experience on Saturday and Sunday, October 26-27, from 9:30 am to 5 pm. Bags will be provided at the entrance. Friends of the Zoo (FOTZ) members may join us from 8:30-9:30 am for an exclusive hour!

Fall-themed Lanterns at GloWild: Legends & Lore
GloWild Lantern Festival Returns to KCZoowith All-New “Legends & Lore” Theme
The popular GloWild lantern festival returns to the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium this fall with a brand-new theme and displays. In its third year, this unique and immersive nighttime experience allows guests to adventure through “Legends & Lore” with massive, handcrafted artworks on display at the Zoo. This year’s event features two loops, an adventure loop including Atlantis, dinosaurs, pirates and more, and a fantasy loop journeying through mystical lands like an enchanted forest and a fairy garden.
In partnership with LEKTRIK ART, GloWild: Legends & Lore will illuminate the Zoo with exquisitely detailed lighted sculptures, including a few that can be walked through and others that have moving parts. The lanterns will be spread along a 1-mile route through the Zoo from September 6 to December 29.
More than 34 tons of steel and nearly 89,000 feet of silk-like fabric have been used to create the spectacular works that guests will see, and it’s all been handcrafted by 151 artisans! Guests will walk a one-way path through the displays with opportunities to stop to enjoy photo opportunities, concessions, shopping, and entertainment. This year, guests can also visit Sobela Ocean Aquarium on Wednesday evenings with admission to GloWild.
New to GloWild are special fall-themed lanterns that can only be seen from September 6 to October 31. Also new is the fun zone located near Helzberg Penguin Plaza that will include activities this fall like pumpkin decorating, a pint-sized hay maze, pedal tractors, games, and entertainment, all included with admission. Santa will be returning November 1 to December 29 to greet guests in his North Pole Village with new holiday-themed lanterns and holiday activities in the fun zone. Guests will want to visit multiple times to enjoy GloWild in both autumn and winter to experience all it has to offer this year!

The limited-engagement multimedia installation guides guests on a wild journey through the grounds, culminating in an immersive performance uniting live music, dance, aerial acrobatics and more. Animated by the Arboretum’s transitioning seasons, the boundary-breaking event illuminates environment in surprising ways: agrestal costuming that incorporates the bounty of the gardens, embedded performers who meld and merge with the twilight landscape, light design that leads the audience deeper into the dream. This unique collaboration between Quixotic and Friends of the Arboretum has astounded guests and left them in awe of Mother Nature’s ultimate imagination.

Louisburg Cider Mill's 46th Annual Ciderfest
Louisburg Cider Mill's 46th Annual Ciderfest kicks off Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29 from 8 am - 6 pm with the Louisburg Lions Club pancake breakfast from 8 - 11 am. The parking lot will be packed full of craft and food vendors, along with pony rides and inflatables. Live music will be on the Lost Trail stage. Watch as we press apples into cider and make our famous apple cider donuts.

Dark Forest
Powell Gardens, Kansas City’s botanical garden, is thrilled to announce the return of Dark Forest, an extraordinary outdoor event in collaboration with renowned performance art collective, Quixotic. Now in its fourth year, this highly anticipated event will take place on October 18-19, 24-26, 31 and November 1-2 from 7-11 p.m. Dark Forest visitors are invited to explore a mesmerizing 1-mile trail through the enchanted woods of Powell Gardens.

The Coterie presents Electric Poe
The Coterie presents Electric Poe, select nights Oct. 17-Nov.3
Just in time for Halloween, Electric Poe returns to Union Cemetery to showcase R.H. Wilhoit once again captivating audiences as the master of the macabre. This year, Wilhoit looks at Poe through the eyes of Poe’s rival writer, Rufus Griswold. Written as an obituary by Griswold for Poe, highlighted stories include “The Raven” and “William Wilson”. Treat yourself and your family to superb acting accompanied by atmospheric underscoring in front of Union Cemetery’s “Holding Vault,” built in 1857 in Kansas City’s oldest public cemetery.
