Campbell Park, originally referred to as “Old Horseshoe Bend,” is nestled where 61st Street meets Turkey Creek. Looking across the creek, one can see the remains of an access road that was once utilized as the east/west thoroughfare. Campbell Park is a unique park for the city in that the land is owned by the Merriam Drainage District of Johnson County. Named after David Gee Campbell, the man accredited in establishing the first community of 20 homes in approximately 1864, Campbell Park has seen many improvements in its 42 years! Today the City of Merriam is responsible for all equipment purchases and improvements that occur at the park. The park provides access to the Streamway Trail but also areas for rest and reflection.
