For several months now, my wife and I have been trying to potty train our daughter. As all parents know, this is a frustrating process, filled with ups and downs, accidents, and timely sprints to the bathroom. Although we still have to sprint to the bathroom because our daughter has waited too long to use the bathroom, I am happy to report that our daughter is finally, completely potty trained, or so I thought until two nights ago when I was notified that we were beginning the "final stage" of potty training.
Now, I have to admit that I consider myself blessed that I have never had a bed wetter in my house. The potty training process was a difficult one for our two boys, but once they got it, they got it and they have never wet the bed, aside from the occasional accident. I don't remember doing anything special with the boys when it came to bedtime. I know we had them use the bathroom before climbing in bed and that we limited the amount of liquid they poured down their throats, but, as far as I can remember, they figured out how to stay dry during the night all on their own. We threw them in underwear and just kind of hopped for the best.
This is the stage I now face with my daughter. She has been wearing pull-up to bed for a while now, but two nights ago, she announced that she was a big girl and wanted to wear underwear to bed. To be honest, I didn't think she was ready as I remembered how she had wet the bed after falling asleep in my bed over the weekend. As she stared up at me, with her big round eyes and a silly smile, I desperately tried to think how my wife and I taught the boys to stay dry through the night. I almost panicked when I came up with nothing.
My wife however took charge and told her that it was okay. She could wear underwear to bed, but that she needed to stay dry. I could only look at my two girls and hope for the best.
How do you avoid bed wetting? I am not sure, but so far, we have had two dry nights.
