Proper skincare is important for all women, especially as we approach the summer months in KC. For starters, a healthy diet and adequate amount of sleep are important. When it comes to choosing the right foods, look for sources of vitamins A, C and D. Vitamin A helps with elasticity of the skin and repairs skin cells and can be found in carrots and beets. Vitamin C prevents premature aging and promotes collagen production. Citrus fruits and some vegetables are good sources of this nutrient. Vitamin D is found in eggs, fish oil and butter and aids in skin healing and bone health. When you’re spending time in the sun, use sunscreen with a high SPF and always drink 8-10 glasses of water daily to keep skin hydrated. Drinking a lot of tea, coffee and caffeinated beverages can result in greasy skin. Drinking alcohol excessively and smoking can also result in damaged skin. According to WebMD, all women should also keep these items stocked and ready:
- Moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15
- Eye makeup remover
- Exfoliator
- Mask (mud, clay or honey)
- Eye gel
- Razor and shave gel
- Body oil
- Body scrub
- Body wash and sponge
- Tweezers
- Deodorant
- Lip balm
- Hand lotion
