An Old Time Christmas Features a Newanna Production Show, Brilliant Holiday Experience
Bright lights line streets, buildings, pathways and trees during Silver Dollar City’s An Old Time Christmas, running Nov. 5 through Dec. 30. The 2022 season marks the debut of a new production show, Coming Home for Christmas, along with more than 6.5 million lights, an elaborate eight-story, animated Christmas tree, a light parade, holiday foods and more. Silver Dollar City shines brilliantly with so much entertainment that the park is the five-time reigning champion for Best Theme Park Holiday Event in America.* anna
Throughout the streets of The City, carolers sing and stroll, while the centerpiece of Joy on Town Square, an eight-story Christmas tree, and surrounding lights glow spectacularly. Even brighter is Christmas in Midtown, with its remarkable display of light tunnels, wreath portals, flying angels and special effects nine stories tall. For thrill seekers, rides soar under the Ozark Mountain starlight, with all the Christmas lights visible below.anna Craftsmen, in the Christmas spirit, create one-of-a-kind heirlooms, demonstrating glass blowing, wood carving, pottery and more.anna
The City’s stages offer more than 30 shows each day and night. Along with the longtime favorite production, A Dickens’ Christmas Carol, the new show, Coming Home for Christmas, features a live band and a cast of 14 singers and dancers presenting holiday music, stories and family traditions. annaOther productions include The Living Nativity and the Saloon Frontier Fa-La-La Follies.
Rudolph’s Holly Jolly Christmas Light Parade winds through The City each evening with lighted floats, characters, dancers and performers.
Guests aboard the Frisco Sing-Along Steam Train enjoy a Christmas story.
To add to the festivities, menus offer a variety of seasonal treats, including holiday dinner with smoked turkey, ham, prime rib and trimmings; specialty soups like potato leek; and Silver Dollar City’s Miner’s Beef Stew. Plus, savor a variety of sweets such as hot chocolate and wassail, s’mores or warm apple pie with homemade cinnamon ice cream.anna Tasting Passports let guests sample their way through The City.anna
The two-month-long holiday event boasts some impressive statistics: 680 miles of lights, 1,000 decorated Christmas trees, 600 wreaths and more than three miles of garland and ribbon. anna

Christmas movies often feature quaint towns with beautiful holiday decorations, strolling carolers and the magic of Christmas on every corner. We’re fortunate to have several towns with that Hallmark Christmas movie feeling less than a tank of gas away from Kansas City.
Branson, Missouri
Branson is famously decorated with millions of lights every holiday season. Silver Dollar City, the top attraction in Branson, hosts an Ozark Christmas with millions of lights, holiday shows, delicious Christmas delicacies, rides and more. In addition to Silver Dollar City, you’ll find holiday entertainment at Sight & Sound Theatre’s Miracle of Christmas, Dolly Parton’s Stampede, and the Haygoods.anna ExploreBranson.com
Pella, Iowa
Pella is beloved for its Tulip Time Festival every May, but Christmas is also magical in this quaint Dutch town. The most recognizable landmark in the town is the Vermeer Mill, a working 124-foot windmill from the Netherlands that is used to grind wheat. The historical museum features a Dutch village with a wooden shoemakers shop, grist mill, bakery, library and more. The first weekend in December, Pella hosts Kerstmarkt, an outdoor Christmas market featuring artisan vendors. Throughout the season, enjoy carriage rides, boutique shopping and visits with Sinterklaas. VisitPella.com
St. Charles, Missouri
St. Charles is famous for its cobblestone streets, historical architecture near the Mississippi River and the yuletide nostalgia they share during their annual Christmas Traditions celebration. Visitors enjoy Victorian carolers, beautiful greenery decorating the historic district, delicious holiday foods, shopping and more all month long. DiscoverStCharles.com
Lindsborg, Kansas
Lindsborg celebrates its Swedish heritage year-round, but it is especially unique at Christmas during the Festival of St. Lucia. On the second weekend of December, the town celebrates with holiday music, a St. Lucia parade, the crowning of St. Lucia, and cookies and coffee. You may also visit the Old Mill Museum, many local shops and eateries, and historic sites. VisitLindsborg.com

Powell Gardens is known for its terrific seasonal festivals and this holiday season they bring the return of theannaEvergy Festival of Lights (November 10 – December 30, 2022 (Wednesday – Sunday* | 4-10 p.m.)) with all the magic visitors have come to love and some new experiences as well.
We attended the Festival on opening weekend, experiencing the magic of the winter wonderland – a nice respite for the family. This festival runs all season long, so the crowd size is manageable and guests are able to enjoy the lights and displays at a leisurely and comfortable pace.
This year, the light installations by featured new media artist, Kevin Heckart are truly spectacular. We began in the conservatory… transformed into a tropical paradise:
The Conservatory is decorated as anannaEnchanted Tiki Barannawith tropical plants, an island bar, and a suspended installation creating a fun and festive Hawaiian Christmas. Mele Kalikimaka!
We then took a stroll through the magical lit outdoor path, while you stroll a lighted outdoor path enjoying the many displays along the way, including beautifully lit trees, a light tunnel, annaand sculptures (the butterfly is a favorite)
Our favorite display is theannaQuixotic Fountain of Lightannain theannaFountain Garden. This immersive installation presents a trulyannadazzling show of light and sound.anna
TheannaIlluminated Passageannain theannaHeartland Harvest Garden is whimsical and fun. Guests are encouraged to stand in the center and take group photos. The display looks like a colorful starry night sky overhead.
Another crowd favorite is theannaLight Labyrinth at theannaMissouri Barn & Silo. We wandered the quilt-like pattern of the garden beds all decorated with a maze of lights. The colors transition from cooler to warmer colors representingannafall, winter, spring, and summer.
A trip to Powell Gardens wouldn’t be complete without going to the top of the Silo for a birds’ eye view of the lights below.anna
Additional Favorites:
