Youâ’re busy. Iâ’m busy. We’re all busy. Sure, some seasons are busier than others, but letâ’s just accept itâ¦Family life is busy!
Recently, I went over to a good friendâ’s house with my two younger children. It had been months since weâ’d gotten together because weâ’d both been so, you guessed it, busy! We had the best time just talking about everything and nothing (while sipping coffee, of course). Our children had a great time together and it was a joy to watch them enjoy each otherâ’s company. We both commented that we had to get together more often, no excuses.
We make time for the things that are important. We donâ’t go days without eating, sleeping, bathing, or talking to our families. Why do days turn into weeks and months before moms make time for their friends? Relationships are an important part of our lives. Moms need each other. Weâ’re better together. I suppose I could find some research to back this up, but anyone who has a friend knows theyâ’re good for you.Â
So, this afternoon, after a morning full of friendship, I did something Iâ’ve never done before. I wrote down a list of friends that I would be intentional about contacting this week. I planned to call some, email others, and meet a couple for play dates. (Am I the only one who has done this?)
By the end of the afternoon, Iâ’d called two friends and arranged one play date. Weâ’ll let the kids tag along as well.   So far, the list is working and reminding me to focus on my friendships. Plus, that list was a lot more fun to make than my chore list!
How do you take time as a busy parent to continue to develop your friendships?
