It’s time for a day trip — and this one is absolutely worth the drive. Head east from KC for about two hours, and you’ll find yourself in the charming river town of Rocheport, Mo. With its historic downtown, scenic views and location right along the Katy Trail, Rocheport is a favorite stop for hikers and cyclists alike. But even if you’re not hitting the trail, this little town makes for the perfect slow-paced getaway.
Start your day at Stockton Mercantile. Located right on Central Street in the heart of downtown, this is truly one of the nicest shops we’ve ever visited. It’s the kind of place you could wander through for an hour without realizing it. They offer antiques, home décor, wine accessories, kitchen supplies, gourmet foods and so much more. There really is something for everyone — yes, even the guys. Take your time browsing and be sure to chat with the staff. Everyone is incredibly friendly. But then, what else would you expect from a small town?

Next, just a few doors down, stop by Southern Gent Candles. Every Saturday, you can create your own custom candle — such a fun and unique experience. First, choose your vessel (your candle jar), then select one or more scents from their extensive collection to create your own custom blend. They offer everything from floral and sweet to woodsy and bold — plenty of options for every preference. Once your fragrance oils are added to the warm wax and the wicks are set, your candle needs at least an hour to cure. Which works out perfectly … because it’s time for lunch.

Head just around the corner to the Rocheport General Store, a charming and cozy restaurant with a menu that changes daily. You can typically expect soups, fresh salads, hearty sandwiches and rotating entrees, all thoughtfully prepared. And absolutely save room for dessert — pies, cakes, homemade ice cream and other sweet treats are often available, and everything is delicious. (If you plan to visit on a Friday, Saturday evening or Sunday, reservations are highly recommended.)

After lunch, stroll down the street to Southern Provisions, Southern Gent’s sister store. Here you’ll find a curated mix of Southern Gent candles alongside cigars, leather goods, beef jerky, home items, vintage finds and other thoughtfully selected merchandise. It’s a great spot to pick up something unique, whether for yourself or someone else.

Before heading home, make one last stop at The Blufftop at Rocheport, a tasting room for Les Bourgeois Vineyards. It’s an absolutely delightful place to relax for an hour or two. Enjoy a wine tasting, take a tour or simply sit back and relax, with or without a glass in hand. They also feature brews from Broadway Brewery and spirits from Rocheport Distilling Company, plus a well-curated selection of specialty foods, souvenirs and unique gift items.

Rocheport may be small, but it’s full of charm — the kind of place that invites you to slow down, explore and stay just a little longer than you planned.
