Fairy Tale Village at Crown Center
Fairytale Village, a FREE exhibit at Crown Center, Feb. 8 - May 3: Classic children’s tales come to life when families visit Fairy Tale Village. Enter an enchanted world where kids can interact with characters from their favorite stories and rhymes. Discover a world of make-believe around every corner. Meet the Ice Queen in her Ice Palace and experience the giant adventures of “Jack and the Beanstalk.” Sit in Cinderella’s magic carriage and later stroll with “Little Red Riding Hood” through the woods to Grandmother’s house. Run safely inside the brick house of “The Three Little Pigs” and then have lunch with the “Seven Dwarfs.” See “Pinocchio” come to life and more! This interactive exhibit includes a reading area where parents can share their favorite tales with their kids. Great Shows at Coterie
The White Rose: We Defied Hitler showing thru Feb. 9: Based on real events, a challenging new work that examines the role of ordinary people in extraordinary times. This gripping and intriguing play tells the true story of Sophie Scholl, a German college student who led the only act of public resistance to the Nazis during the Second World War. The play contains little-known facts about Sophie, her brother Hans, and the civil disobedience of the White Rose movement in Nazi Germany. Scholl’s moral strength is tested while being interrogated for her crimes, leading her to question whether to save her own life or continue her righteous crusade. Length: 70 minutes
Puffs Feb. 25 - March 22: For seven years, a certain boy wizard went to a certain school of magic. But in this story, the sorting hat assigns us to the house of Puffs—where an owl informs an ordinary American named Wayne that he’s a wizard. Together with his school of magic pals – Oliver, Megan, and heartthrob Cedric – they wonder if conquering evil is in the cards for them.

- KCCA 2020 Chinese New Year Gala Feb. 1: The celebration will include exciting performances on stage such as folk dancing, musical performances, classical and pop songs, and choruses from local Chinese art performance groups.
- Walk On: The Story of Rosa Parks Feb. 4: In Montgomery, Alabama, a determined activist named Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a city bus. The resulting uproar launched the Civil Rights movement and changed our country forever. Walk On: The Story of Rosa Parks weaves together music and drama to tell the story of Rosa Parks and how the determination of one individual made all the difference in the struggle for freedom and equality in the United States.
- Anderson & Roe, piano duo Feb. 7: Steinway artists Greg Anderson and Elizabeth Joy Roe are revolutionizing the piano duo experience for the 21st century.
- Bobby McFerrin and Gimme5: circlesongs Feb. 9: Bobby McFerrin's calling has always been to connect people through the unlimited possibilities of music.

- League of Women VotersCentennial Celebration Feb. 29: In 2020, the League of Women Voters celebrates its centennial. Join us to recognize our past struggles, celebrate our many successes and continue our outreach!The featured speaker will be Rosie Rios. Ms. Rios was the 43rd Treasurer of the United States. Rios is currently leading Empowerment 2020, a movement that focuses on the recognition of historic American women, It provides a collective voice advocating for women in senior leadership positions and investment programs for both women and girls.

February at the Kansas City Zoo
February Events at the KC Zoo:
- Butterfly Bonanza Feb. 1 & 2: Ever wonder why some insects, birds and mammals are always hanging around flowers? Join us to learn not only about butterflies, but other cool pollinators. Explore how pollinators of all kinds help flowers and other plants thrive in nature. Create a butterfly or bee paper bag puppet to take home with you! All activities are included with Zoo admission and take place in the lobby from 10 am to 3 pm.
- Zoo-per Bowl Party Feb. 2: You can feel the excitement in Kansas City! The Kansas City Zoo's animal kingdom is behind The Kansas City Chiefs Kingdom all the way! Before the Super Bowl, kick off your day at the Kansas City Zoo and save. Those wearing Chiefs gear or red on Sunday, February 2, will receive $3 off regular admission. Some of animals are getting in the spirit with some punting, passing and tackling of their own! They will be enjoying Chiefs and football enrichment items beginning at 9:30 am. Chiefs fans are invited to come out and take a picture with the Mahomes polar bear before his jersey is retired for the season. This is one pre-game you don't want to miss.
- Will Zoo Be Mine? Feb. 8 & 9: Will Zoo be Mine? Head out to the Zoo and learn about all the amazing ways animals find love in the animal kingdom. From penguins to deer, different species use different ways to find the “one.” Check out the Wheel of Wonder to explore ways that animals find their mate and touch biofacts from many different animal species.
- Yoga Night Feb. 12 & 26: Hosted cooperatively by the Kansas City Zoo and the Kansas City Zoo Chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers (AAZK), a significant portion of this event’s proceeds will go to conservation efforts. This unique opportunity includes a one hour Yoga class taught by Daisy Chavez at various locations in the Zoo. After yoga, we’ll embark on a Twilight Tour to view some of our nocturnal collection. - Teddy Bear Clinic Feb. 15: Do you have a teddy bear or stuffed animal in need of some TLC? Bring your favorite friends to the Teddy Bear Clinic on Saturday, February 15, from 10 am to 2 pm and let the volunteers from Kansas City Young Matrons nurse them back to health. We will fix rips, tears and holes and give them a good fluff. Once they are back to tip-top shape, they will receive a clean bill of health. Every stuffed animal needs a little TLC at the Zoo’s Teddy Bear Clinic.
- Humboldt Penguin March: Weekends: Stop by the Helzberg Penguin Plaza at 11 a.m. to see the Penguin March. Our cold weather birds will march from the back of the exhibit, outside for our guests to see and then back inside the building, weather permitting. See king and gentoo penguins up close at the Penguin March.

- Night at the Arboretum Feb. 21 from 7-9pm: Walk the trails at night and then warm up while listening to our guest. Dr. Brice Obermeyer is a Cultural Anthropologist focusing on Delaware (Lenape) Tribe history. He has written the book, Delaware Tribe in a Cherokee Nation (University of Nebraska Press, 2009) and other articles concerning the Delaware Tribe’s efforts to preserve historic sites and repatriate ancestral Delaware remains. Three power point presentations during the evening will describe the original Delaware settlements with a unique connection to the Kansas/KC area, when the Delaware were forced to move from this region and relocate to the Cherokee Nation, and provide maps showing lands between the KC and Topeka areas which originally were the Delaware Tribe’s last reservation. All included with admission.
