Winterfest at Worlds of Fun

Christmas at Crown Center
2450 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, MissouriNov. 29: Santa's Arrival Santa Claus arrives in a horse-drawn carriage to kick off the holiday season. Join Santa as he makes his way to Santa's Gingerbread Station, where he resides through December 24.
Nov. 29: Mayor's Tree Lighting Crown Center will host its annual Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 29, with programming beginning at 5:30 p.m. The public is welcome to join Kansas City, Missouri Mayor Quinton Lucas and as he officially flips the switch to light more than 48,000 LED white lights around Crown Center, including on the 100-foot Mayor’s Christmas Tree, a Douglas fir that is the centerpiece of Crown Center during the holidays and one of the nation’s tallest Christmas trees. The Mayor’s Christmas Tree, with 10,600 LED white lights, was named one of “10 travel-worthy Christmas trees across the USA” by USA Today last year. The tree also includes 892 ball ornaments, 100 snowflakes, and new this year, 300 bells.
Starting Nov. 29: EBT Santa Don't miss one of Kanas City's favorite pieces of Christmas nostalgia. EBT Laughing Santa, who first appeared at KC's Emery, Bird, Thayer department store in the early 1900s, has been providing memories for new generations at Crown Center since 1979. Children of all ages will marvel at this Jolly Ol' Soul as he chuckles his way through the holiday season while counting down the days until Christmas.
Starting Nov. 29: Santa's Gingerbread Village All aboard for a favorite holiday tradition at Crown Center! Kids and families can explore this interactive exhibit, meet and have their photo taken with Santa Claus (through December 24), climb aboard the Crown Center Express Train Engine, and enjoy Gingerbread Village. No admission fee. Photos with Santa are available for a fee, or you may take your own.

Oct. 31 - Nov. 3: Matilda - The Musical Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Over the course of her first term at school, Matilda and Miss Honey have a profound effect on each other's lives, as Miss Honey begins not only to recognize but also appreciate Matilda's extraordinary personality. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!
Nov. 7-10: Disney's Aladdin JR Disney’s Aladdin JR. is based on the 1992 Academy Award®-winning film and the 2014 hit Broadway show about the “diamond in the rough” street rat who learns that his true worth lies deep within.The story you know and love has been given the royal treatment! Nov. 14 - 17: School House Rock JR The Emmy Award-winning Saturday morning educational cartoon series and pop culture phenomenon is now the basis for one of the most fun and easily mounted musicals ever to hit the stage, Schoolhouse Rock Live! JR. An energetic musical, which follows Tom, a young schoolteacher, who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music. Memorable songs as "Just a Bill," "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly" and "Conjunction Junction" bring his lesson plans vividly to life.

Journey to Judea
W. 175th St, City of Overland Park, KansasNov. 22-24, Dec. 6-8: Journey to Judea is an interactive Christmas experience that allows you to walk through the narrative of the Bible, learning the twists and turns that lead us to the birth of Christ and reveal the true significance of His coming. The birth of Christ is more than a historical event: it has crucial relevance for every man, woman and child.
This event includes a cast of nearly 100 people, live animals, narration, live action, and music. Groups of 40-50 people will be guided through an hour-long outdoor tour of different scenes spread across twenty acres of land, literally walking through the story of the Bible. Our goal is to make this a yearly event that families can enjoy together as a part of their Christmas celebration.
They offer six separate nights of outdoor tours this year. New tours will begin every ten minutes and will take about one hour to complete. You can pick your departure date and time as well as print your ticket when you register for the event. Tickets are free, they just ask that you register in order to plan accordingly!

Events & Exhibits at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
- Nov. 3: Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead Festival) A fall tradition for many Kansas City families is our Day of the Dead (El Dia de los Muertos) celebration. This festival is a commemoration of the rich and beautiful Mexican culture, including an altar installation to tribute loved ones who have passed away, art activities, live entertainment and Mexican food.
- Opening Nov. 15: Queen Nefertari: Eternal Egypt She was known as The One for Whom the Sun Shines. Discover the celebrated Queen Nefertari, the Great Royal Wife of Pharaoh Ramesses II. Experience the magnificence of royal palaces and tombs, including Nefertari’s burial chamber, considered one of the greatest artistic achievements in the Valley of the Queens. Explore the daily life of the village where tomb builders and artisans lived, worked and worshipped more than 3,000 years ago. Drawn from the world-renowned Museo Egizio in Turin, Italy, the exhibition will bring together works that present the richness of life in ancient Egypt, focusing on the role of women—goddesses, queens, and commoners. Queen Nefertari: Eternal Egypt will provide a unique opportunity for visitors to experience the discovery of the tomb of one of the most famous figures of the time. Works of art from the excavations will bring ancient Egypt to life for 21st-century audiences.

Overland Park Arboretum Luminary Walk
Nov. 29 & 30, Dec. 6 & 7, and Dec. 13 & 14: The tradition continues as FNBO, Westlake Ace Hardware, and Sarin Energy Solutions present the 20th Annual Holiday Luminary Walk. Thousands of candles illuminate over a mile of pathways through woods and gardens, music fills the air, while holiday lights brighten the trees, buildings and bridges. The Holiday Luminary Walk has become the traditional kick-off of the holiday season for many families. Kids love the Gnome and Fairy Villages, the colorful Children’s Garden and visiting with Santa. Grown-ups appreciate the quiet walk through the winter woods and the many musical performances. And everyone enjoys hot Louisburg Cider around the campfire, served by Boy Scout Troop 222, followed by a horse-drawn wagon ride. Purchase tickets in advance.
