Review: Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas

by

I'm a proud adult VeggieTales fan and have been since I first discovered them as a teenager. They do such a perfect job blending engaging stories for little kids with clean humor that only adults will catch. For a bunch of singing and dancing vegetables, they are incredibly witty!

If you haven't ever seen a VeggieTales show, go watch one. They are so entertaining! Truly some of my very favorite children's entertainment!

SO! I was over the moon when I found out that they were going to let me review VeggieTales DVD: Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas! If you could have seen the little jig I performed in my living room, you would have thought that it was actually Christmas day. Yay!

Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas starts out in a mall that is slowly dying. Veggies just aren't coming to shop like they used to, so they decide to stage the most amazing Christmas display in an effort to outdo the competition. Merry Larry is a Christmas Elf who helps with the Santa display (although Santa never actually appears in the show). His job is to write down what the little kids want for Christmas. A small girl walks up to him and tells him about how she is raising money to help an older lady in her neighborhood. Before Merry Larry can learn all the details, she leaves with her mom, and he is left wondering why such a little girl would want to help another lady rather than ask for things for herself.

The rest of the show is about Merry Larry on his quest to find the little girl and then motivate the veggies around town to help the old lady who doesn't suspect a thing. Along the way, everyone learns what the true meaning of Christmas is, and the story of Jesus' birth is presented in an easy-to-understand way.

All with plenty of giggles, catchy songs (you've been warned!), and adorable veggies!

As a bonus, Si Robertson from Duck Commander voices Silas the Janitor/Narrator, and Owl City and TobyMac perform a new song just for the show!

Want to nab a copy of the newest VeggieTales DVD? They retail for $14.97, but Amazon has them for $12.67 right now! Also, if you would like some FREE Merry Larry coloring pages, head over to the VeggieTales website, scroll down to the bottom, and click to download them!
