Historic Weston Orchard and Vineyard: Family Fun Tips

2023 Edition

by

Our family highly recommends a visit to the Historic Weston Orchard and Vineyard becoming your family’s new annual Fall tradition. We made the short drive up to scenic Weston, Missouri to discover all that the Weston Orchard had to offer—and we were not disappointed!

The Orchard provides a multitude of fun Fall activities for families of all ages. It was easy to spend hours there and leisurely enjoy a beautiful day outdoors. The Orchard first opened to the public in 2019 and Farmer Eric has continued to grow and expand his ‘u-pick em’ crops, plus the activities and experiences available for guests to explore.

Visitors can now pick a large variety of apples from the orchards, take a tractor-pulled wagon ride to the pumpkin patch, get up close with farm animals at the petting zoo, or enjoy one of the many fun games and activities made especially for kids.

Upon arrival at the Orchard, everyone enters through the big, impressive red barn. Inside, you will find The Market—a place to buy all the apple cider, apple butter, apple pie, and apple cider donuts your heart desires. And of course, bags upon bags of fresh apples of all varieties. For the adults, there is even apple wine to sample or to take home with you—wine flights are only $5 and there is a lovely selection of Weston Orchard and Vineyard wines and ciders for purchase.

After purchasing your Market treats, head on outside to the patio, where there is plenty of picnic seating—and often live entertainment. Relax and enjoy a nice picnic lunch that you have brought along, or head on up to the window to order some savory street tacos from the kitchen.

Once you’ve finished your picnic, or just had a cool drink while listening to the lively country music, it’s time for some fun at the first of the two Play Zones! Kids will love the HUGE bounce pillow—it was definitely the big hit with ours. When you’ve finally managed to coax them away, they can test their skills at Ball Toss or Strongman, or take off their shoes to play in the corn crib. There is also a barrel train ride for the littles. Another popular activity is the Rat Racers—kids can climb inside large tractor wheels and race each other down the track. They even have apple and pumpkin cannons! If you’re lucky, you may even be treated to a cannon candy toss—that was super cool!

After you’ve had your fill of fun in the Play Zone, it’s time to hop on the tractor wagon for a ride to the pumpkin patch and apple orchards. The scenery during the ride is spectacular and makes for great photos. It’s the perfect time to get the classic Fall family picture together on the hayride.

You will be dropped off at the Pumpkin Patch and Apple Orchards, where you can pick your own pumpkins or bags of apples. The pumpkins were large and everyone had a great time choosing the perfect one. The apple orchard has a large variety of ripe, delicious apples to choose from, including: Gala, Jonathan, Honeycrisp, Fuji, Jonagold, Ida Red, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Empire, Evercrisp, Granny Smith, Pink Lady, and Rome Beauty. Whew, that’s a lot of apples!

Next to the pumpkin patch and orchards is the second Play Zone, and this one is even better than the first—in our opinion! Kids can enjoy a petting zoo, a giant slide, ziplines, low-ropes course, hay mountain, and even a cute carousel ride!

For the kids, the best attraction was the treetop play house village. It looks like it came straight from a fairytale and was such a blast to explore and play pretend. My personal favorite part of the experience was taking family photos in the beautiful zinnia garden. What a great photo op! You can also purchase fresh-cut flowers from the field—they make the perfect bouquet.

And speaking of photo ops, there were so many great photo opportunities and cute cutouts throughout the Orchard—be sure to get to them all!

After a day of family fun at the Historic Weston Orchard and Vineyard, don’t forget to visit historic downtown Weston, or Weston Bend State Park before leaving town. And of course, you will have the full display of Weston’s vibrant fall colors to enjoy on your ride home!
