Life Lessons from Sesame Street

I don't watch Sesame Street very often. My girls are no longer of the age that enjoys the show and well, it's not really one I sit and watch by myself. But, I have many nieces and nephews who are the Sesame age and recently my sister in law, Anna, sent us a sweet note along with a link to a video from Sesame. Her son, Michael, who is 20 months, loves both the video and the song. After listening to the song, I fell in love with it as well.

Wait a minute-we interrupt this blog post for this trip down memory lane! As I went on You Tube to find the lyrics to the above song, I found videos from Sesame from my youth, The Alligator King and The Ladybug Picnic-ah, memories!!

Okay, back to the matter at hand, the new video from Sesame stars Will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas and has a sweet message for everyone, young and old. Some of the lyrics are below:

If what I am is what's in me

Then I'll stay strong - that's who I'll be

And I will always be the best "me" that I can be. There's only one me, I am it

Have a dream I'll follow it

It's up to me to try. Oh! I'm a keep my head up high

Keep on reaching high

Never gonna quit

I'll be getting stronger.

And nothing's gonna bring me down (no!)

Never gonna stop, gotta go.

Because I know I'll keep getting stronger.

And what I am is thoughtful

What I am is musical

What I am is smart

And what I am is brave

What I am is helpful

What I am is special

There's nothing I can't achieve.

Because in myself I believe in

What a great message to teach our kids!
