Mom Friends

When Tori started Kindergarten two years ago, my mom said “Look around the room at back-to-school night. You’ll be looking at your best friends.” At the time, I just chalked it up to one more nutty thing said by my mom (the list of nutty things she has said is pretty long J). I didn’t know anyone at the school when she started and certainly didn’t believe that these strangers would become my best friends.

Well, would you believe it, mom was right!! Having now been at the school for a little over two years, some of my dearest friends are indeed the other parents in Tori’s class. I can call on them when I need advice, someone to watch one of my kids or an ear to listen to my worries or just to chat. When I need a moms’ night out or to meet up for lunch, they are there. When family pictures are coming up and I have nothing to wear, I turn to their closets. We exchange uniforms, recipes, tips on handling a variety of subjects and commiserate over school projects, spelling tests, mad minutes and learning to read.

What’s even more fun is that many of us have a second child who will be in Kindergarten together beginning next year and so our journey together begins again.
