Take Time for Hugs

We carpool to school, which has proven to be a blessing time and time again. From not having to stand out in the cold every day after school to the great friends we've made, being a part of the carpool has been such a benefit and many times, a life-saver.

Recently, Ally told me she only liked when I picked her up. This surprised be, because when Mr. Kendrick picks up, he often brings the "snack box" or makes a Sonic slushy run (he is WAY cooler than I am). When I asked why, she told me, "When I come out of school, my arms need a hug and if you aren't there, I don't get my hug." I was so touched by her response and assured her that if I wasn't there I was sure that Mr. and Mrs. Kendrick would be more than happy to give her a hug. I told a few friends about what she had said and on the first day I didn't pick up after our conversation, I asked Ally how it went. She reported that all went well and that "Tammy (her friend's mom) needed a hug, so I gave her one."

So on days to drive carpool, as I rush to pick up all the kids and make sure we have all bookbags, coats, gloves, etc and get home to begin the second act of our day, I'll always remember to take time for my hug from my Ally.
