The Saga of Skippy

Two weeks ago, the girls came home from the park with their babysitter and announced, "We found a turtle!" As I have stated in the past, I'm not really a pet person, so I can't say I was overjoyed to hear the news. I turned to see the aquisition and in a bucket was the smallest and cutest (and proabably only) water turtle I had ever seen. He was no bigger than Ally's palm and for a turtle, darling. They named him "Skippy" and were so excited to show their dad (who, Tori informed me, wants a turtle for a pet).

I told them we could keep him for a day and then we would put him back. A day turned into two and three, and by now we had taken him to the pet store to find out what to feed him (fish and carrots) and set up his home with plenty of rocks for him to crawl on. The girls played with him all the time and the whole family really took to him. Ty and I were discussing getting a more permanent home for him and the girls proudly introduced Skippy to everyone who came by (and all had the same reaction as me). Tori even wrote a story about him for my blog and asked if she could be the guest blogger for the week.

After dinner last Tuesday, Ally took Skippy out to play with him. And forgot she had taken him out. And came inside the house. You can imagine the rest. By the time she remembered Skippy, it was too late. MANY tears were shed, signs were made and words were exchanged. The saga of Skippy has a sad ending, but we sure had fun with him while he was around. So long, Skippy.
