Lessons from My Mom
Happy Mother’s Day! I hope that all moms out there are having a wonderful day being spoiled by dad and the kids. One of my most favorite ways to celebrate Mother’s Day is by going to brunch. Two favorites include Benton’s at Crown Center and Garozzo’s in Olathe. If you are a brunch lover and haven’t been to either I promise, you won’t be disappointed! If you have a favorite brunch spot, let me know. I am always on the lookout for some place new.
In honor of Mother’s Day I thought I’d share three important life lessons that I learned from the wisest woman I know, my mom. I don’t know how I got so lucky, but I have one fantastic mom. I can only imagine the shades of crazy we six kids drove her, but in spite of it all, she survived and stayed sane (for the most part).
- Live each day as if it you were your last. Mom always told us not to save the good china or the fancy jewelry for a special occasion. Each day we are alive is a gift from God and in itself a special occasion.
- Be the rainbow in the storm of life. Poor mom, she wanted each of us to use this as our senior quote in our high school yearbook, and being the jerky teens we were, none obliged. Now older and wiser, I see the truth in that quote. With so many bad things going on in the world, the least I can do is try to make the world a little bit brighter by my attitude and disposition.
- Each person you come in contact with today is doing the best that they can. Such great advice to remember! In trying to live by these words I hope to treat those around me with compassion and understanding and be aware of the struggles and difficulties that others may be encountering today.
- If I can be half as good of a mom as my mom is, then I consider myself a success.
