Follow the Yellow Brick Road

Last week we drove to Denver to visit my husband’s sister. Our first time doing a drive of that length with the girls and I might be jinxing myself on future drives, but I have to say, they were very good and the drive was not nearly as painful as I had anticipated. On the way there we did it all in one fell swoop, but on the way home we broke it up into two days. My husband saw signs for an Oz Museum in Wamego and we decided to surprise the girls and stop by.

You must know, I loved The Wizard of Oz as a child and have passed on my fondness to both Tori and Ally. I have wonderful memories of watching the movie with my cousins and then reenacting it scene by scene. So I was more than up for visiting the Oz Museum and it did not disappoint!

You enter into the gift shop and I think my girls would have been happy spending their time in there! They surprisingly didn’t ask to buy anything and were happy just looking around at all of the Oz items that were available. We recently have begun collecting pressed pennies and they were both happy to get a penny pressed at the Oz Museum. Once inside the museum, there are so many interesting artifacts and tidbits to take in. Tori, my oldest, was interested in looking at everything in the cases, while Ally, my youngest, was happy looking at the characters and watching the movie.

We spent about an hour going through the museum and probably another half hour in the gift shop. I could have stayed longer, but the girls had reached their limit and it was time for us to head home. While we did not make a day trip out of it, I think with a little planning you could. There is a restaurant nearby, “Toto’s Tacoz” as well as a park.
