Heavenly cupcakes abound as the cupcake craze takes over! Cute little single-serving desserts in a variety of flavors and so many creative presentations, it's no wonder this is the new dessert of choice. We've rounded up our favorite cupcake shops in Kansas City just in time for Valentine's Day! Treat your sweet to some sweets at one of these local cupcake shops.

Note: All of these shops are generous with the icing and as any cupcake aficionado knows - the cake / icing ratio is a matter of taste. For our taste, 3 Women and an Oven and Bloom have the best ratio, Gigi's and Smallcakes are the MOST generous with their frosting!

3 Women and an Oven

For eight years, 3 Women and an Oven, a locally owned boutique cupcake shop, has been serving specialty desserts made from scratch. They use real butter, making moist, delicious, and beautifully decorated cupcakes, cakes, and desserts delivered in a pink box! Their princess cupcakes are 1/3 larger than typical cupcakes and iced with decadent homemade frosting creating their signature flavors.

Our FAVORITE Cupcake from 3 Women and an Oven:  Their Pink Champagne Cupcake (pictured) is one of their best-known and most beloved cupcakes. For girly-girls, this light cupcake with pink frosting and a bit of pixie dust with just a hint of champagne flavor.

Bloom Baking Company

Bloom Baking Company ~ Located in the City Market ~ 15 E 3rd St Kansas City, MO. 816.283.8437. Prices vary.

Bloom is perhaps one of the best bakeries in Kansas City. Located at the City Market, it is weekend treat during the height of Farmers' Market season (but they ARE open year-round)! Everything is made from scratch with the finest ingredients. While you can certainly enjoy breakfast, brunch, or lunch as the bakery - no visit is complete without a cupcake for dessert. They offer both mini cupcakes and regular size, so you may choose according to your appetite - they LOVE frosting at Bloom and each cupcake is generously decorated.

Our FAVORITE Cupcake from Bloom Baking Company: The Peach Cupcake is moist and flavorful with delicious homemade peach marmalade filling!

Gigi's Cupcakes

Gigi's is a national chain with a location nearby in Overland Park. Known for their artful presentation and creative variety of flavors, this one of the most fun cupcake shops in town! Famous for frosting piled high atop each and every cupcake, the combinations are all tempting and tasteful. They offer both regular and mini cupcakes. Their cupcake menu changes every day with roughly a dozen offerings according to the season and mood of the bakers... so you never know what you might enjoy at Gigi's! Tip: Visit their website for the menu and schedule to know when to plan to enjoy your favorite flavors!

Our FAVORITE Cupcake from Gigi's: Grasshopper (pictured) a dark chocolate cake with Andes Mints®, topped with a mint cream cheese frosting, drizzled with ganache' and topped with an Andes Mint®.

Smallcakes

Smallcakes ~ Several Local Locations. $3/cupcake

Cute cupcake shops across the metro with a fun atmosphere - you can dine in at Smallcakes! The cakes are moist and the frosting is good - with a fun variety to suit the entire family.

Our FAVORITE Cupcake from Smallcakes: Caramel Crunch a chocolate cake with Carmel frosting topped with sea salt and chocolate pretzels.
