Sept. 3 is Skyscraper Day … celebrate Kansas City style!

Take an Insta-worthy pic in front of Missouri’s tallest building. One Kansas City Place at 1200 Main has been the tallest building in Kansas City since 1988, soaring to 42 floors. The 624-foot-tall building, with its Art Deco-style mirrored glass exterior, bears a striking resemblance in design to the KCMO City Hall. This is not a coincidence. The architect was inspired to create an ’80s version of the municipal building.

Get a bird’s eye view of the city from atop City Hall. Just a few blocks east from the Metro Center streetcar stop, you can take a tour to the top of the Kansas City Missouri City Hall (414 E. 12th St.). City Hall observation deck tours are available Monday, Tuesday and Friday 8:00-4:00. You must schedule a tour in advance. Stroll on a downtown rooftop. With so many beautiful parks, trails and green spaces, Kansas City boasts endless options. But for a one-of-a-kind experience, you can stroll on the rooftop at Green Roof Park (1211 Main St., Kansas City, Mo.) in the Power & Light District. Access may be found off Main Street, between 12th and 13th streets. This park is a fantastic free way to get a great view of the downtown’s tallest buildings.
