Sew-Easy Monogram Pillows

In case you’re scrambling for last minute gifts, I am a huge fan of pillows! I can’t think of anything easier to sew (even for a novice!) or a better way to use fabric scraps and remnants. Now, for something extra-fun, I made initial pillows for my niece Maggie and my nephew, Ethan.

On Maggie’s M pillow I used a ruler to draw a perfectly square M. Once I cut out one, I used the M as a pattern to cut out a second M. Sewing right sides together, I left two 3” openings (instead of just one) to turn it inside out and stuff it. Then, I stitched up the opening and added flowers from my posting here. A few things I learned: clip the corners and notch the turns for a crisper letter shape. Also, you can use a chop stick or unsharpened pencil to get into the corners.

For Ethan’s E pillow, I simply made a rectangular pillow in a fun grey chevron fabric. Then, I appliqued (using iron-in interfacing) the “e” cut out in a contrasting fabric. Iron on your letter before you stuff though! And then stitch up your opening and you’ve got a darling little e pillow.

If you’re unsure there are tons of tutorials online. I learned to sew just a few years ago by watching video tutorials on You Tube, so you can even start there! Good luck!
