Valentine Skirt

I wanted to make something for the girls for Valentine’s Day, but we are so busy these days I really didn’t have time to do anything complicated. I knew people on Pinterest were making skirts from old t-shirts, so I decided to give it a try! As long as you have all of your supplies (and don’t have to make multiple trips to the store, like me!) then it really is as quick and easy as it seems.

All you need is an old t-shirt, with enough room from the arms down to make the length of your skirt (measure from the waist to the knees and add 1.5 inches for the waistband). Then, cut across the t-shirt below the arms, leaving the bottom hem of the t-shirt intact. That becomes the bottom hem of your skirt, which is another reason this is really easy.

Fold the unfinished edge over and sew a seam leaving an opening for elastic. Thread the elastic through, finish the stitch and voila! You’ve got a t-shirt skirt. Now, decorate it however you’d like to. I used the iron-on fusing to make a heart out of a contrasting fabric and ironed it on. I’ve included the heart template here, in case you want to use the same pattern.

If you have extra time, you could spell out the letters LOVE and iron them on. You could add a ruffle at the bottom, the possibilities are endless! But, I sort of like the comfy simplicity of the t-shirt skirt the way it is here. Happy Valentine’s Day!
