1 Pregnant Mom + 2 Toddlers + Worlds of Fun = ?
I grew up spending summers at Worlds of Fun. I still mourn the loss of the Zambezi Zinger. I rode the Timberwolf on its Opening Day and, being the "Cool Big Sister" I ALSO rode the Wacky Worm on its Opening Day twenty years ago with my youngest sister.
I was very excited to take my children to Worlds of Fun to see what summer memories we'd create. However, I have to admit, I was a bit reticent about taking them NOW... my girls are 3 1/2 and 1 1/2, and I am expecting. Was this really the formula for fun?
We visited Worlds of Fun a few weekends ago and was I ever surprised! As my 3 year old stated, "We didn't have fun. We had LOTS of fun!"
Worlds of Fun's Camp Snoopy is PERFECT for young children. It features nearly twenty Snoopy-themed rides with the under 4 ft. crowd in mind. My daughter's favorite was the Wacky Worm Roller Coaster. Daddy's favorite attraction in Camp Snoopy was the Foam Factory with air compressed machine guns and gizmos for firing foam balls at one another... an indoor playground for the entire family to participate in "Foam Warfare" - the ideal family bonding experience!
Camp Snoopy features not only a tot-sized roller coaster and the Foam Playground, but also a Moon Bounce, train ride, numerous carnival style rides in Snoopy themes ranging from Red Baron airplanes, to a Peanuts Camp Bus, cars, motorcycles, boats, bugs, bumper cars and more.
And of course, you can't call it Camp Snoopy without SNOOPY! The entire Peanuts Gang was out and about visiting children and taking photos all day long. We took in the Camp Karaoke show and sang and danced with Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Sally, Linus, and Lucy. Emily was anxious to call grandma and report that she'd danced with SNOOPY himself and they sang, 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game,' her new favorite-must-sing-100-times-a-day-song. Thanks to Snoopy she has decided that Cracker Jacks are her favorite snack, even though I'm fairly certain she has NEVER actually eaten Cracker Jacks. (Maybe we should fix that before the summer ends.)
Beyond Camp Snoopy, we enjoyed the Train Ride, Carousel, French Taxis, and several other family-friendly rides throughout the park.
I can't finish without mentioning the BIGGEST surprise for me... Worlds of Fun smells... yes, you read that correctly... smells WONDERFUL! The Park is lush with Lilac Bushes and Honeysuckle. The staff is constantly on duty sweeping and cleaning. The Park is clean and fresh. I was absolutely delighted and amazed by this. I never thought I'd say Worlds of Fun was one of the best SMELLING places in KC... next to Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ... and McGonigle's Ribs... and Loose Park's Rose Garden... and Creative Candles Factory... okay that's my top 5.
All that to say, if you're looking for family fun this summer that is terrific for ALL AGES (Worlds of Fun still boasts numerous fantastic Coasters for the taller set... Mamba, Patriot and ALL NEW Prowler to name just three)... take in Worlds of Fun. You'll be glad you did!
