The Legends, located in Village West in Kansas City, Kansas, is an outdoor shopping center with over 100 businesses across more than a million square feet. Discover great ways to spend a day at The Legends with kids and teens.
Breakfast
If you truly want to spend the entire day at The Legends, you should start with a hearty breakfast. There are a couple of restaurants that primarily serve breakfast food: IHOP and Bob Evans. Both of these places are closer to the outside of the shopping center, so you can stop for breakfast before heading into the main area.
Enjoy the Outdoors
After breakfast, you can walk around The Legends and enjoy everything there is to see outside of all the stores. Right in the middle of the shopping center is a fountain - a great spot for a photo op.
The Lawn is a relatively recent addition to the shopping center. It’s an open grassy area that has covered seating and space for kids to run around. There are many events that take place on The Lawn, including outdoor movie nights.
Learn About Kansas History
As you walk around, you can also learn about some of Kansas’ history by looking at the murals showcasing Kansas “legends,” that give the shopping center its name. According to the Legends website, “Legends Outlets showcases famous Kansans in athletics, music, exploration, science, technology, politics, art, and much more, recognizing the men and women who make the state truly unique. Each courtyard and corridor at Legends Outlets is dedicated to a particular category of famous Kansan or aspect of the state and its history.”
Snacks
If you want to enjoy a light snack while you walk around, there are a few different places that sell smaller food items. If you like soft pretzels, head to Auntie Anne’s. If popcorn is more your thing, shop at Topsy’s. For some protein, buy some jerky at the Beef Jerky Experience. All of these foods are easy to eat while you’re on the move.
Lunch
There is no shortage of places to eat at The Legends. If you’re in the mood for Mexican food, there’s Jose Peppers, La Fuente, and El Toro Loco. For Asian cuisine, you’ll find Stix and Panda Express. If you want a place with a wide variety of options, eat at Chili’s or Applebee’s.
Shopping for Kids and Teens
Books-A-Million, or BAM, and Gamestop are two stores that your child or teen will love. BAM is more than just a bookstore. It sells a lot of pop culture memorabilia from movies, TV shows, and book series. There are toys, posters, T-shirts, and other collectibles from a wide range of fandoms.
Gamestop is the place for all things video games. As well as the games themselves, Gamestop sells console add-ons like controllers and headsets. You can also buy video game merchandise such as hats, hoodies, and T-shirts.
Dave & Buster’s
Instead of spending the hottest part of the day outside, take the family to Dave & Buster’s for some indoor fun. Dave & Buster’s is an arcade located fairly centrally in The Legends. There are many electronic and interactive games, as well as classic games like Pool and Shuffleboard. Dave & Buster’s also serves food, so you can stay there over dinner if you don’t want the fun to end.
