This year at the beginning of the summer we sat down with the kids and asked them what kinds of fun things they wanted to do this summer. We wrote down everything they said and hung the big list on our fridge. I love kids because their suggestions ranged from "roller skating" to "Worlds of Fun" and everywhere in between. Some ideas were quick things we could do in an hour, some were all-day trips or excursions. Some were things we would do over and over (go to the pool!) and some were one-time experiences. Mom and Dad both got to pick things, too. I picked a visit to see Monet's Water Lilies at the Nelson Atkins and Dad picked a family bike ride in a new location. It has been so much fun for us to actually have a list to see every day and to cross things off as we do them. I'm happy to say that at the end of the first month of summer, we are over 2/3 done with our list! We are going to start adding things that come up to keep it going, too.
It has not only been fun for us, but it has been helpful for me on those days where I wonder, "What in the world are we going to do this week?" All I have to do is look at the list and pick one or two things and I've got my plan!
It's not too late for you to make a summer fun list if you haven't already! What will be on your list?
