I'm a big fan of keeping it simple. In my opinion, kids don't necessarily need real elaborate toys to keep them occupied, and sometimes the easiest ideas created at home, have just as much entertainment value as a movie.

This Simple Halloween Card Matching Activity falls right into that category! The total cost? $1.20. I'm not even kidding! How is that for inexpensive?

Now let me show you how easy this is!

I ran to the store and bought a large pack of foam sheets. Since this is a Halloween themed activity, I chose two sheets of orange foam for my cards. I also ran by the scrapbooking aisle and found some Halloween themed stickers for $1.

I simply cut each foam sheet into 12 equal pieces. Each card got one sticker, making sure that there were two identical cards for each sticker in the stack when I was finished.

And then I called the kids over to play with their new card activity!

I laid out one set of cards on the table, and then handed them individual cards to match with what was in front of them.

With 12 sets of cards, there was plenty to go around for my four toddlers. Next time, though, I may split the deck into two stacks of 6 sets and have two kids work each set on opposite sides of the room. Sometimes they get so excited, it's hard to keep track of that many cards at once as eight hands grab for them.

Tip: If your kids are like mine and want to peel the stickers off of the cards, brush a thin layer of clear-drying glue over the top. It will seal the stickers to the foam.

This ended up being a great matching activity as we continue learning that skill. I also liked using the foam sheets as it made the cards more substantial for little hands. The fact that it is seasonal, inexpensive, and quick is just extra nice!
