School's Out

by

It. Is. Here.

Shhhhh! Be very quiet! That sound you hear? That’s me, celebrating the beginning of summer. Now I know you are thinking to yourself, “Margaret, summer doesn’t officially begin for a month AND the kids still have school next week.” I know, and to me, it just doesn’t matter. As far as I am concerned, summer is here!!!! Next week is a cream puff week at school and my girls are out on Wednesday, so I’m not too worried about any part of it. I LOVE SUMMER!!!

Why do I love summer so much? Lots of reasons, but the biggest being that there is no school! I know, strange to hear coming from a former teacher and believe me, I value education, it’s just that I don’t like being a slave to the school routine. I don’t like packing lunches, I don’t like remembering if I have car pool duty, I don’t like waking the girls early, I don’t like our evenings spent with homework, I don’t like having to keep track of whether or not I have enough uniforms washed for the week, and so on, and so on. I like being able to stay up late and swing out back in our hammocks and just relax!

Now, all that being said, we are not just twiddling our thumbs around the Sarver home all summer long. Oh, no! Lots of field trips planned, trying a camp co-op with friends this year, attending Girl Scout camp, the “Ultimate Sleepover” is taking place in St. Louis (more on that at a later date) and much more. In fact, next Thursday, our first official day off from school is going to be spent putting together our summer bucket list. All of the activities and things we want to do this summer. And then Friday we are heading to the OP Arboretum for a walk and picnic in the morning and then in the afternoon, painting some garden stones (we’ve been working hard to ‘spruce up’ our backyard and want the girls to be able to add their personal touch). Jiggle Jam on Saturday and my folks arrive on Sunday.

What’s that you say? You aren’t sure what all you want to do this summer (and you aren’t a plan ahead crazy person like me who’s already got a lot of the days planned out?). Never fear! KC Parent is here! Wait until you see our Summer Fun Guide in the June issue-so much to do, see and try! And, let me just tell you, our Summer Fun Guide on our website is out of this world!
