Plans for the Blue Springs Fall UN-Festival to be held on September 18 and 19 have evolved to become a combined food and vendors tour with Blue Springs businesses included.
In late June, the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce announced that due to COVID-19 concerns, there would be no Fall Fun Festival on Main Street this year. Instead, there was to be a local food tour with virtual vendors, the Blue Springs Fall UN-Festival.
“The community response to virtual vendors was mixed,” said Lara Vermilion, Chamber President. “Some thought it was a bad idea and others were grateful that we were willing to provide an alternative plan. We know how many of our local not for profit organizations and businesses depend on the revenue from Fall Fun Festival each year.”
“We started thinking that if we spread everything out enough, we could include both food and vendors as a part of the in-person event.”, said Vermillion. “This pandemic has hit our community hard and this option also gives us an opportunity to include and promote Blue Springs businesses because the vendor booths will be in their parking lots.”
Starting July 1, phase 2.5 of the Eastern Jackson County Recovery Plan includes a 100-person maximum for large gatherings and special events. “We’ll end up having several “mini events” along 7-highway. We’ll be able to follow all social distancing guidelines.” , said Vermillion. “We know this will look completely different than the Main Street event in previous years, but we are embracing the necessary changes to make it happen.”
For 51 years, the Fall Fun Festival has been a staple of Blue Springs, drawing more than 130,000 attendees annually and contributing over $500k in economic impact in Blue Springs. It has offered attendees the chance to visit commercial, food, game and craft booths. There has been a beer garden, carnival, parade and entertainment on 2 stages.
The 2020 Fall UN-Festival will include:
• Variety of Vendor Booths
• Food Trucks & Booths
• Cornhole Tournament
• Contests & Giveaways
• Free Games
• And More!
