Like all young children, my daughter has outgrown the current clothing in her drawers and closet, making it time to pull out the hand-me-downs to figure out what does actually fit. We were in her room trying on a KSU Wildcat shirt, and I was teaching her to say "Go Cats!" All of a sudden, out of nowhere, the unexpected visitor showed up. The. Stomach. Bug. YIKES!!
My daughter has survived nearly 21 months of life without ever having the stomach bug (and the symptoms associated with it), but it arrived on Friday with a vengeance. Poor girl never even saw it coming. And neither did Mom.
We had a great family day prior to that, with some shopping, lunch, an unplanned moment to see an Easter Bunny, and a bike ride in the afternoon. She was acting completely normal with no indication that something might be wrong. So when she got sick in her room, I was in shock.
From 4:30-8:40, nearly every 30-35 minutes, she got sick. She was this sick little rag doll that I held all night long, praying that each time she got sick would be her last. Well, her eighth time was her last time, at 8:40, and we were so grateful for all of that to come to an end. I help her until 10:30, when I finally felt comfortable laying her down in her bed.
It did mess her sleeping schedule up the next morning, because at 5am, she was ready to get up and get some much desired water. Poor girl couldn't have a drop of liquid since she was sick and not holding anything down. Even the one sip of Pedialyte we offered her at 8:10 after getting sick only lasted 5 minutes until that came back up.
At 5:45am, realizing our daughter was not going back to sleep until her afternoon nap time, we decided to forget how tired we were, snuggle up with her on the couch, and watch a Baby Einstein video. We were now able to give some Pedialyte, but not in the massive gulps that she would have liked. We hoped the video would be a good distraction (which it was), and thought that just maybe she would get tired and fall back asleep.
Although the part about her falling asleep never happened, she was in a great mood, and it looks like the unexpected visitor was only here for a short stay. Any infamous stories about the sickies at your house?
