This summer seems to be getting hotter and hotter! Personally, I'm not a fan of heat. Give me snow any day (and yes, I EVEN said that last winter when we had snow in abundance in KC and other families were tired of it). So, what's a mom to do when you have three children at home and it's HOT outside?
These are some of our favorite fun ideas for COOL Summer Fun at home:
-
Paint with Popsicles:
If you have plastic popsicle molds, fill them with diluted washable paint (I used half water and half washable tempera paint), then froze them. Then, pop them out of the freezer and let your children paint on giant sheets of paper using the paint popsicles as their brush. The kids simply hold the stick and use it to draw/paint their picture. They will be delighted by the novelty (you may need to remind them NOT to lick) and reward them for their artwork with a REAL popsicle afterward. -
Make Your Own Ice Cream:
You don't have to own an ice cream machine to make your own delicious dessert. This recipe for Ice Cream in a Bag is one of our favorites. Not up for making it from scratch? Buy a carton of your favorite flavor and let the kids top it with ingredients you have on hand... think outside the box and pass on chocolate syrup and cherries this time... consider topping your ice cream with cereal, fresh fruit, or pretzels! -
Cold Feet:
Fill small bowls with a bit of cool water and add some bath fizzies or a drop of soap. Let your kids soak their feet and for little girls, pamper them with a pedicure afterward! -
Play with Ice:
This is a fun and fast game you can play at home! The Melt-An-Ice Cube Game:
Take turns rolling a die. Follow the instructions below for the number rolled. First one to melt their ice cube is the winner. 1 = Hold it 10 seconds. 2 = Drop it down your shirt. 3 = Blow on it for 10 seconds. 4 = Put 10 shakes of salt on it. 5 = Drop it. 6 = Float it for 10 seconds in room temp water. -
Make your own Orange Julius:
Blend 6 oz. frozen orange juice concentrate, 1 cup milk, 1 cup water, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla extract. Blend for a few minutes, then add 8-9 ice cubes one at a time. Enjoy!
